  2. I've had my HSDs for over a year and nearly 7000 road miles and have been very pleased with them, it would be interesting to know if there's damage I don't know about though. There are obviously a few people about in the same situation, I'm not a mechanic and had mine professionally fitted but if there was a way we could all check then that would put this issue to bed. Is there a way to look at the strut towers from above to see if any damage is being caused or would you have to take the coilover out and look from below?

    The standard wheels are all 8" wide so your tyres will be fine. With an offset of 38 you'll probably need spacers though, 20mm would be good with no issues or arch rolling required, you might even get away with 25mm.
  4. I've been with Plusnet for quite a few years, always great service and great value. At the end of your contract they're generally happy to negotiate a good renewal price too. If you don't want a package that includes TV then I'd definitely recommend them.

I'm sure that you'll have no problems at all fitting those tyre sizes under the arches unless you're seriously lowered, the question is over whether the traction control will like the front tyre size. The majority of people running 19" wheels on a 350Z including myself use 245/35R19 front, 275/35R19 rear as that's what's fitted to the Nismos and causes no trouble. The 350Z traction control expects the front tyre diameter to be a little less than the rear, whereas the 370Z has a front tyre that's a slightly larger diameter than the rear. This is where your problem could arise, using 245/35 and 275/35 means the front is 21mm smaller whereas 245/40 and 275/35 would mean the front is 3.5mm larger. My suggestion would be to try it and see what happens, if it kicks up a fuss then get some 245/35 tyres and sell the 245/40 ones on the forum to a 370Z owner.
  6. You'd ideally want 20mm spacers on the front, none needed for the rear. The front tyres might also need changing to 245/35 instead of the 245/40 ones that the 370Z uses although I'm not sure if the original sizes will cause you problems with TCS or not. The wheel nuts are also different as they use a flat seat instead of the taper seat that's used with 350Z wheels. Look good though so worth the effort.
  7. Thanks guys, it does sound like the Sure Signal could be the way to go, the main issue being that they currently have two phones on O2 and one on Vodafone so they'd have to switch networks. From what I've read, getting a Boostbox from O2 which is essentially the same thing is difficult or impossible for most people. They've just got BT Infinity in the village which they've signed up for so hopefully the broadband congestion won't be too bad. Another option I've just found is a mobile signal repeater which is even more expensive but if it works would give more flexibility as it’s not linked to just one network or any particular devices, although wherever they put the aerial would need some sort of signal: http://mobilesignal.co.uk/products/166/iBoost-GSM-900/ Can't seem to find any reviews or tests on similar products which is a little worrying as if they worked they would probably be really popular.
  8. I know there's a few tech savvy and helpful people on here so I thought I'd throw this at you. My brother has recently moved to a house where his mobile signal is really bad and I've been investigating what options there are to improve it. My brother and his girlfriend use O2 and Vodafone and neither is very good.The most obvious solution may have been to switch networks but apparently the neighbours have tried different ones and they're all just as bad. My next thought was a femtocell such as the Vodafone Sure Signal or O2 Boostbox but these seem expensive and potentially hard to get working reliably. Each phone needs to be registered with the femtocell and they would also be tied to using just one network. Today I found another option, O2 TU Go, which is an app for iOS (iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch), Android and Windows 7. It's basically a VoIP and messaging app that uses your O2 phone number to send and receive calls and SMS text messages over a WiFi connection. I've tried it on my laptop and it seems to work well enough but my phone (and currently my brother's) is too old to install it and try it out properly. Has anyone tried either of these solutions or suggest anything else to try? I know there are other VoIP apps around but I don't know of any which you can use with your existing mobile number.
  9. The Bridgestone Databook says it's okay, plus the standard non-Rays 18" wheels are only 8" and come with 245/45 tyres. I see no reason why you shouldn't do it other than it's an unecessary compromise seeing as 8.5" Rays are so readily available.
  10. Was the car supplied with Rays when it was new? If they were fitted afterwards then who knows what you might have. If I was you then I would take all the wheels off and check them myself before going back to the dealer. The size is clearly shown on the back of the wheel. I wouldn't accept any budget tyres either, unless that's what you've got now in which case I'd pay the difference to upgrade to something safe. I'm sure there was some guy on the forum fairly recently who had the wheels mixed up by someone who should have known better and ended up with one or both of the front wheels on the back of the car and only noticed after the accident.

  13. I have seen that 370Z photo before and I have a feeling that they're using the standard R35 tyre sizes which are 255/40 and 285/35, so yes bigger than you'd really want on a Zed. The sizes on Ad1983's wheels being 255/35 and 285/30 are more suitable.
  14. I think these would be spot on for a 370Z with those tyre sizes and you wouldn't need front spacers either.
  15. Here's a photo I took 13 years ago with my state of the art 1.3MP digital camera, doesn't look much different really.
  16. The drive would certainly be very different to a modern car but I think mostly in a good way! The ride was a little hard (could have been the 17" wheels it shouldn't have had) but it had very sweet handling with no power steering, really great fun. I once took a work colleague out in it who had a 600+BHP 300ZX auto and he thought the 911 had 400+BHP from the way it drove, it just sounded and felt like you were going a lot faster than you probably were. The thing that let it down massively was the brakes which were pretty hopeless, six months before I bought it I'd been driving a new BMW 3 Series (1996 E36) and the brakes were light-years ahead. One time I was driving down the M40 in light rain on my way home from work and someone inadvertently drifted into my lane and I had to hit the brakes hard, all four wheels locked up and I slid sideways. Managed to catch it and no harm done but that was a definite brown trouser moment, made me realise that you have to pay attention 100% of the time, every time you drive it as there is nothing to catch you. At least in a modern car you can leave the driver aids turned on if you're just trying to get from A to B and not out to push it and have some fun.

The mileage was 135k and there were rust holes on the chassis below the engine, a wear patch on the drivers seat base and the gearbox was very awkward between 1st and 2nd (a lot worse than the Zed) when I had it. It looks like the seat is fixed and I would guess the other issues have too but despite that I doubt it's "one of the best examples available" because if it was it probably would be worth near twice that. I enjoy driving my cars and deliberately didn't buy the best example as my daily driver to avoid the anxiety. It still looked great, drove great and was 100% reliable even with the mileage.

  20. Something very bizarre just happened. I'm not looking to change my car any time soon but when I do I'm thinking I might get another Porsche as I absolutely loved the one I used to have, I was even talking to my other half about it earlier! So, I was surfing Auto Trader to see what was about in my expected price range and came across my old car which I sold 12 years ago! On the one hand it brings back great memories and I'm really pleased it's still about and looks well cared for. Maybe the coincidence is telling me something and I should buy it back? I don't really want to run a classic everyday and I can't justify more than one car at the moment, was really looking at a 993 as the oldest I would go for now but more likely a 987 Cayman or 997.   21. Not in Bucks but when I lived in High Wycombe I took my car to Japex for servicing and maintenance. Great service, good pricing and Ross certainly knows his way round a zed. Oh, and Jez at Horsham supplied and fitted my coilovers, more than happy to recommend his services too.

  24. I thought one of the main reasons why people liked rear coilovers was that the dual perch design allows you to run lower without compromising the damper. I'm confused as to why they wouldn't be suitable for this straight out of the box. Seems a bit like the extended rear adjusters I got with mine which also needed to be re-drilled so that they would fit. I haven't heard any mention of the MeisterR Zeta-R or any other true coilovers having similar issues.
