What causes the creaking? I've just started to notice it when I set off at low speeds round corners, thought it was the seat at first!

If they break in to your house then insurance will cover it. Leaving your key accessible from the post box is just stupid and you shouldn't get an insurance pay out anyway, whether this is true or not I'm not sure.
