I do and yes I know I live in the south where it isn't as cold as it is further north but it makes so much difference when pushing your car. It does also provide that extra level of safety in cold and wet conditions.

Not exactly sure what you have done but the head unit is coded to the ECU. So if you ever need to remove and sell the head unit, you have to get them unlinked then you can sell it. So yes they are definitely linked but not sure to what capacity and if the cutting of wires created an issue. On a side note, removing the head unit the normal way is so simple. Not sure how come you couldn't remove it at first.
