  1. LOL! They will be back............... On a side note, apparently you can request/demand to be put on a ignore list, if they are being a pain, trouble is not all of then seem to look at it we get loads around my way, see them arrive in a mini bus....the wife hates then with avengence and if they dare approach our front door, she is out there like a Rottweiler, and they had better hope Jehovah is looking down on them.
  2. Ongoing form my wife's laptop demise, due to the problems i had with the windows 10 cough "upgrade", i ended up removing it, trouble is that i think doing this causes yet more problems, anyway the upshot was that it corrupted the HDD/operating system, now the problem is that the wife didn't create a recovery/system image disc, So after formatting the HDD, which was the only option, i am now left with the prospect of having to pay Toshiba £50 just for a USB or CD to get Window 8 back onto it, as due to the product key being embedded in the bios, i cant just download windows 8 and install, the media creation tool wont let me so i was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem, and knew of a cheaper way around it?
  3. Wow. Nice. I think every single point in that post is incorrect? That engine never had a chance. On the plus side, I think I am correct in saying that there is no way that the mechanic could have damaged the engine right? I mean, even if the timing is messed up by, for instance, the flywheel on wrong, you couldn't actually do any mechanic damage to it. Just flood the bores with fuel and upset it a bit. As long as he hasn't gone into the timnig chain compartment, then there can never be any internal valve/piston interference. Please confirm? Sounds to me like it running in limp mode due to something being out, IE a sensor being out of range, if he had bothered to run a diagnostic on it he would know what to fix instead of clutching at straws......like hydraulic followers and no oil pressure. Anyway there is no way anything should be damaged IF he hasn't buggered around with something he shouldn't, if the crank signal was out to any degree the engine just wouldn't run, if its in limp because of a sensor or coil pack wired incorrectly.
  4. Sorry but you definitely need to take it somewhere else that knows what there doing, this guy clearly does not! Unfortunately i live in Norfolk, or i would help you sort it.
  5. I have got scratches out of glass with paint cutting compound and a buffer on several occasions.
  6. Will the VQ run with no MAF signal? and if what Ricey is saying is correct and there are four possible positions for the flywheel to be fitted, it would mean that the position could be anything from 45 deg or more out, which would not allow the engine to even run, but even so the sensor will just count teeth, and the ECU will know the relevant position for correlating the cam POS with the crank to determine the actual real position, so in theory unless these do tally up the engine will not fire anyway.
  7. There is no crank sensor on the front of the engine. The crank sensor is on the rear of the engine/gearbox bell housing and picks up from the flywheel. I still say that the crank sensor or the fly fitted wrongly is the issue, however you can never legislate for simple silly mechanic mistakes. Wasn't aware of that, thanks! presume its a hall sensor that reads flywheel/starter teeth? makes sense, i am used to hall triggers on the front of crank, Surly the flywheel is pegged onto the end of the crank to avoid incorrect fitting? Yes this was my thinking on the miss diagnosis of the mechanic.
  8. On the flywheel alignment, i wasn't actually aware that it had a position sensor on the flywheel, just the crank sensor one on the front of the engine, i would guess that if the two cam position sensors where switched it could cause a problem, but i suspect it just wouldn't run as the system relies on correlating the crank, and cam sensors to be able to fire and fuel in the correct sequence, my first checks would be as i mentioned above.
  9. First off as all the others have said, the oil pressure is in no way related to the misfire timing problem, has the mechanic used a mechanical oil pressure gauge to verify there is a real problem with the oil pressure, and not just the sender or gauge? To me the diagnosis is a bit daft for a experienced mechanic as he hasn't verified that his theory of the imaginary hydrolic followers are keeping the valves open etc by at least running a leak down test! Now the VVTI system not working would not cause the issues, but IF the coil packs are wired wrong it still wouldn't cause the reported issue of ALL six cylinders causing pre ignition in the the intake runners, apart form not being able to tell with a common plenum, which is why he is saying that It would only take one coil or two coil packs to be firing incorrectly for it to look like this is happening, but he should know that anyway! So has all the coil pack wiring etc been checked? as this to me sounds the likely reason, once this and the oil pressure has been double checked properly then it time to start delving deeper. Now there may be good reason for your mechanics diagnosis, but so far i am not impressed.
  10. Just downloaded Far Harbour DLC......not as different as i thought it was going to be...so far, did consider No Man's Sky, but after watching some game play i found it rather visually unimpressive, i find it very hard to find anything as good, as in as free roaming, open world non constrained games, guess i will have to wait for the revamped version of Skyrim, personally if they where to do the same with Oblivion i would be very happy...stunning graphics.
  11. They should last the life of the engine, there are a lot of very high mileage VQ engines in other cars that are still going strong, Cefiro, Glorias etc and the earlier engines of the same design.
  12. Drain the excess right away, as you will end up doing damage to oil seals and could prevent draining galleries which could go hydraulic, the CEL was probably down to the brake fluid level anyway, its a common occurrence when its low, or under braking.
  13. I find Breaking bad, entertaining but a little slow at times, Blood line i started to watch but kind of lost interest, will have to go back to its sometime, i am currently watching Marco Polo, season two, very good if you like historical drama. Despite having Sky Q, i still hang onto Netflix as i don't have sky cinema, and i think there is a better choice of movies with Netflix, i just wish they would add more UHD movies as they are now going to have some stiff competition from sky UHD movies soon.
  14. Sorry! going to have to ask the question that other are probably thinking....how did you manage to run into a BBQ? Driving after imbibing too may burgers is not advisable, and doing do-nuts in the campsite will quickly alienate you.
  15. Yes one of the running applications that seemed to have a big affect on disc use was an AVG updater, but disabling it on its own didn't solve the issue, just hop my laptop stays OK as i am running win 10 and AVG. Looks like the answer is SSD, its just the price of them that puts me off.
  16. After a real fight i managed to stop enough services to be able to cut the disc usage, so i could access the revert to windows 8 option, so its now back on that and seems to be working ..........for now, so many thanks for all the input and help guys, at least i have learnt a little more about fixing yet another computer problem, definitely prefer fixing cars...at least they don't fight you all the way...well mostly.
  17. Already done that....wont have it. now reverting to windows 8.
  18. Well this has been a real pain, removed the HDD and ran some checks on another PC, no errors etc, so put it back and spent the best part of the day waiting for it to respond to each commend, it turns out that the disc read/write activity is running at 100%, so i had a look and managed to disable the Avast updater, which helped, but its still running really slow and locks up, but i really cant see just what the culprit is that using so much disc activity, not really sure just what to stop/end using cmd commands?
  19. Unfortunately not an option with the wife's PC as its not that old, so i was hoping to find a way around, before i have to pull the HDD and get everything off and try and add a windows 8 download and start again trouble is there is no windows 8 key sticker, so how can i get a replacement?
  20. Thought i would take advantage of the free upgrade anyway did my win 7 laptop and had no problems, did the wife's win 8 and initially no problems, now 10 days later her laptop is very slow refuses to open files/applications, or takes forever, screen goes blank, finally managed to get it to boot in safe mode, but its still the same, so i can run any recovery/repair applications, did wonder if it was a possessor issue, but now think its just windows, trouble is a cant even do anything about getting it to revert to win 8, so has anyone got any ideas before i throw it?
  21. Its a chopped top 32 Ford roadster Gareth, you have good taste.
  22. Will post up a couple more when i get them uploaded, its the local Kings Lynn Cruisers annual show, it was last Sunday.
  23. Took a few pics that some may appreciate, and who does this Z belong to? didn't see anyone around, or i would have had a chat,it had the forum sticker in the window.
