  8. i do have to leave the window down... Spot the towels on the walls ? If they move I know I am too close ! Planning to extend the garage next year......
  9. It was £150 for 4 hours. Went slightly over, and he bought the tea when we stopped for a briefing... £75 was taken up by the skid pan training, well worth it as I buggered HIS tyres doing it. I thought I would be arsing about in the Zed but they have a Mondeo with a full pneumatic out rigger kit on it. He then has full controll of when the slide will start. he makes it harder the better you get so learning is easy I was doing donuts by the end
  10. What an excellent day ! Started with skid pan. A must for everyone who has ever even walked on ice. Learnt some key action immediately- clutch in !!!!! then steer in to it , correct steer back to intended direction clutch out. Whoda thought??? I tried the old boot it and sh'll come right and spun it every time.... a real eye opener. After that some three hours of thrashing about Exeter and the moors. Brilliant. All the coaching was doen timely and in a very relaxed mood. I learnt key stuff and was encouraged to spend time on each step. Changing down ! FFS ! Way better by matching rev's, seamless and more power ! I recommend these guys, I am going back for more in a couple of months for the next instalment. I was never pressured to sign up to anything btw, which was good. I do now feel there is so much more to be learnt though so Ii will put my pennies down for this again. http://www.firstcontactdriving.com/ don't be fooled by the Learner on the front page. This guy drove my Zed and made it fly !
  11. As promised, some images of the install.
  12. Photo's later The ipod cable is extra, of course. Sat nav........ lost it's voice. I would love to get this back. Any ideas anyone? The Phone input/mute is not being used..........
  13. streaching my experience levels and living to talk about it later
  14. I do some training tomorrow ! In Exeter, by the westpoint center is a skidpan. I start there for an hour then on to three hours of road 'performance' driving. Full report to follow
  15. It's in ! What a bloody struggle. Take close note of the install guides elswhere in the forum. I would have been buggered without them. THANKS GUYS A couple of notes: The black / white wire ( on the conversion loom that is not attached to anything) must be earthed. There is a nice fat screw above the sat nav screen that works very well. the handbrake cable can be connected to above screw, This allows DVD / video playback at any time. Not vital to me but I hate being told when I can press a button after forking out £350. It's now mine and I want to play with it ! The additional usb / phono cable is a must for IPOD connection. You can play music videos etc from your pod. Which is acting like a hard drive at this point. The unit sits slightly backward compared to OE unit. This pushed the trim forward by 2mm. Not really noticable but worth knowing. When running the ipod cable to the cubby at your elbow, you can get away with lifting the tunnel at the rear - 2 screws - and by removing most of the skin on your knuckles can retrieve the cable. Absobloodylutely vital point - connect the loose blue/white cable from the conversion loom to a live. This triggers the Bose amp to switch on. It wont be main power but an interlock to activate. It looks cool, IPOD control is neat. Picture is a bit grainy, but is par for what's available. Its got variable signal boost for line in to bose amp issues. It is now LOUD. Only took me all weekend as I had to clean the bloody car again after I had finished and doing the Meguires 3 stage is a bit more than a 5 minute job. Cool though :-)
  16. got it. the blue white wire is power for the amp......
  17. doing an install using this unit. I have followed the guides as published. I cant find the mystical cable J as mentioned on the alpine install guide. ANY help at the moment would be good. Willing to give beer to anyone that can help. I have power but the on light is pulsing, will not boot any further. I have tried swearing....didnt help.
