14N Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Hi All, I've got an issue with my front windscreen washer jets. Can someone throw some suggestions (maybe from experience) how I can clean them? Basically pulling the stalk to wash the windscreen produces a dribble out the jets. So I know the fluid is getting there, it's just not hitting the screen with any force. I've tried cleaning them with a sewing needle, by having a good poke and wiggle, but this has had virtually no effect Is there an alternative way of cleaning them? Can they be removed and/or replaced? Or are they all part of the wiper arm? Any suggestions welcome. Cheers, Ian Quote
ilogikal1 Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Compressed air. The tins you can get for cleaning keyboards and the like should be enough. Disconnect the tubes first though. Quote
Greddy-Matt Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 You can clean the jets by using a pin however I found that there is a non return valve in the line between centre of the engine bay and brake fluid cover, it's white and mine was shot so I drilled mine out and all good now Quote
14N Posted September 29, 2012 Author Posted September 29, 2012 Cool, thanks guys. Appreciate the suggestions. Gives me a couple of other things to try. Quote
marzman Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Will be a £2 non return valve from halfords. Open the bonnet, remove the brake fluid cover, reach under the windscreen cowling and unclip the pipes. There will be 2 valves under there - a Y shaped valve and a non return valve. It is usually this piece which gets blocked. Quote
samsniss350z Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Thanks 14N for asking the question, this was exactly the same thing i was going to be asking as i have the same problem. My sunday maintainence has just got that little bit easier. Quote
14N Posted September 30, 2012 Author Posted September 30, 2012 Thanks again Just to double check before I pull things apart, is this )below) the non return valve? Quote
neo Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 yep thats the one i just replaced mine with a piece of copper brake pipe as the replacement valve did the same thing. Quote
marzman Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Correct, thats the part. Whilst searching for a replacement, eventually found in Halfords, i used the lid of a biro for a week or so in its place without any problems. Quote
14N Posted October 1, 2012 Author Posted October 1, 2012 Update. Quick trip to Halfords and £1.79 later I have a new valve and working screen washers Thanks guys, you're the bestest. Quote
Mikesding Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Have a similar problem - had a look under my bonnet for this white non-return valve but couldn't find it. Is it potentially relocated in the HR engine bay? Quote
14N Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Can't help with your location query I'm afraid Mike, but it maybe that Nissan used a different looking valve in the later models or it's previously been changed (also for a different looking one). The one I replaced mine with was a smaller black thing. The washer fluid was held up 'out the way' by some plastic clips. I'd have thought the location wouldn't of changed by much (if at all) though. Quinster Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I need a new jet for the drivers side. Broke the small plastic nipple being too heavy handed. Think i might replace the hose as well. Quote
