Lamborghini Asterion

Lambo possibly entering the hybrid hypercar market.

Is it me or are the two latest Lambos becoming a bit too "German" and by that i mean, loosing the Italian design influence of something mad. I know both cars look good, but, they are a bit tame imho.

The current cars look pretty good to be honest, a lot of reviewers saying they've lost there 'touch' with the wild side etc. You have to remember though those wild side bits were.... not so good handling, the risk of crashing, lots of bits sticking out (and tbh even that theres never been many lambos with stuff sticking out short of a countach, diablo was fairly clean). So it sounds good but if you had to actually own one... you don't want any of that lol I sat in an LP640 last month and the offset driving position put me off it immediately lol.

The Asteroid or whatever the things called looks ok, it shouldn't be a range topper though as its more GT lookin'

There is no denying the German input has got rid of the above mentioned flaws, which is a good thing of course, but imho its a shame if Lambo styling goes tame. There was a reason Countach and Diablo posters adorned walls across the country. Cars can still look mad and be good :)

Pagani etc prove that :)

But there's your problem, the children buying posters aren't the ones buying the cars. They will build a car to sell to their targeted buyers, who used to buy the posters, but have now grown up and become investment bankers, city traders or the ceo of mega corporation. There's a reason Lamborghini will churn out hundreds of thousands of cars a year and pagani will only sell a few thousand.

As times move on, so do standards, when the diablo or countach were unveiled I'm sure there were some people saying "God, I wish they built cars like the old supercar manufacturers."

They never had problems selling the Countach or Diablo so not sure i really get your point and whilst i used Pagani as a reference, its hardly fair to compare units sold between a mainstream manufacturer and small boutique/specialist builder, so of course there is a reason and its nothing to do with desirability of a Pagani, just look at 2nd hand pricing :)

There was probably a reason why buyers bought Lambos over Ferrari, Porsche etc and it wasnt because they were better cars, as they werent, it was just because they were the mad alternative and a bit wild. Whilst the German input has improved their build quality, reliability etc which obviously makes them more desirable and perhaps competitive, its a shame to loose that mad (or extreme) styling imho as that was the Lambo way.

I have no doubt they will sell them as per cars of old but feel they are loosing that image, it may be a good thing for them and sell more, but there is no mad alternative any more which is a pity if you ask me.

If you say sticking to "the lambo way" shouldn't they still be selling tractors?

At the end of the day, there's a reason they went bust when they were making crazy cars and they haven't when they're making sensible, cool cars.

You know exactly what i mean ;) Should Yamaha, Kawasaki and Mitsubishi etc stuck to their roots?

It wasnt bust it was sold by Chrysler ;) Even then the Germans didnt get it right as sales fell by some 50% in late 2000's.

Anyway, i dont like the new era of styling, you do :)

Just checked and we were both right,

I was right in that:

In 1978 the company declared bankruptcy. An Italian court was appointed to find a buyer and a Swiss based group called the Mimran brother's were able to save the factory.

and you were right in that both the countach and diablo were both after the bankruptcy, so my point is irrelevant.

You dont think the Diablo was wild 15 years ago when it was realeased? :)

The Sesto Elemento is no longer in production, same as the Veneno, of which only 9 were made costing 3 million and the Egoista is just a concept.

The Hurucan and Asterion do not look mad in my opinion.

The cars were not actually 'mad'. Besides some spoilers and skirts which weren't too mental in the days, its the lurid colours and wedge shapes that gave them that 'wild' look. So the cars today are just a tidier version of things like the Diablo, you could argue Lambo haven't had a proper 'mental' car until they started making the special million dollar items with bits flying all over the place.... that one with the orange glass, single seater though is horrid.. I am a Lambo fan and its got to be one of the ugliest pointless concepts ever lol
