AdrianL Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) Just noticed this dangling down when doing an oil change... looks like it had been knocked off a mounting on the alternator, and the wire goes up to the black cable on the top? I've tie-wrapped it for now but looks like it could do with being replaced.. Ta, Adrian Edited April 6, 2015 by AdrianL Quote
The G Man Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Don't know buddy, but if it's a 350 you've got, wrong section you're in Quote

AdrianL Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 moved and locked the other one as it has no comments Thanks mate. Something to do with the earth? That was a thought, but I'm not getting any battery warning lights on the dash or anything. Quote
Ricey Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Are there any pins or connections of any type in the box or is it just a plastic shell? Quote
Tricky-Ricky Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 It will be a damper to stop whine from the charging circuit being heard through the audio system. 2 Quote
AdrianL Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 Are there any pins or connections of any type in the box or is it just a plastic shell? It looks like a plastic shell, and there is a single wire on it. You can see where it was mounted on to the alternator though by the metal bracket that connected to a bolt. Quote
AdrianL Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 Is it OK not being connected for now then? I could do with finding a replacement or some how re-attaching it to the metal bracket though.. Quote

AdrianL Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 Cheers guys good to know what it is. What can I do with regards to repairing it? Can I actually get the part separately? how can I attach something that has been sheared off like that? Thanks Quote

AdrianL Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 What's the part actually called? Googling for "Alternator Damper" doesn't bring up much. Can't see anything on Eurocarparts either? Thanks Quote
AdrianL Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 (edited) Is it a voltage regulator? Edit: Hmm maybe not after looking at this video: Edited April 7, 2015 by AdrianL Quote
AdrianL Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 Got a link? Googling brings up stuff to connect behind the radio, rather than at the alternator. Quote
a2orry Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 Try alternator suppressors. No doubt the brain boxes have changed the name since ZR3i days. Quote
Tricky-Ricky Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Missed this, yes it will be under suppressor, couldn't think of the proper term when I posted. Quote
AdrianL Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 I'll have to ring round some factors tomorrow as I'm not finding much online unfortunately I have a grounding kit installed, and haven't noticed any whining... so are there any ill-effects from leaving it? Quote
Tricky-Ricky Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 If your not getting any audio interference, then there is no need to refit. Quote
AdrianL Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 Sweet. I'll put it on my low list of priority things to do then Quote
