ECU upgrade ?

P15UL T

Recommended Posts

Hi guys + gals

im looking for some advice on what options there are regarding ecu / piggy backs etc.

i have / going to be upgrading the intake, exhaust, plenum, headers/manifolds, sports cats and want to also upgrade the ecu to get the best from these mods

i want to keep in mind that i might want to upgrade to a turbo in the future and would like to use the same ecu down the line.

i have no idea about tuners so any advice would be great

thanks in advance

Paul

I have spoke to Abbey Motorsport about this recentley and they are adamant that the HKS F-Con is the way to go - TDI also supply the F-Con. My preference at the moment though is the Turbo XS Utec ecu - I know that Baptist had this on his TT zed & I think Val also had it.

At the moment im still trying to find someone that can map the UTEC.

Definatly F-con is the way forward and one of the safest route imo, it basically allows all your other mods to come into play, if you are gonna get F-con, opt for the IS version, looks quite smart and if you get the harness and correct aux output leads you can view it on a screen and see exactly what your car is doing. Give Big Phil a call he can source them at really competative prices B) Plus if you go turbo route in future or supercharge, fcon will work to make ssure you are getting the most out of your fi

cheers guys, do you know who specialise in tuning them ?

HKS F-Con is without doubt one of the best on the market. You will need an HKS powerwriter dealer to set it up and to be honest TDI have by far the most experience speak to Mark Catchpole. If you want to go the UTEC route then Thor Racing are UTEC dealers speak to Pete Betts.

Id recommend Tony at GT Export, hes been tuning Z since they were on the market, very knowledgable and sorts out mine, mums and dads, car he use to work for TDI then went his own way, been tuning for 15 years and done my brothers car and tuned my sisters, he also does the full works and gets it on the rolling road too, has a really good workshop in Essex with loads of Top Jap cars and BMW tuned in his garage. Me and my brother swear by him  He's been going to a lot of meetings lately where they are working and understanding prodrive tuning for the imprezas, he knows 350z inside out, let me know if interested ill email you his number.. if he has one fault its that he is a perfectionist and will chew your ear off on the mechanics of tuning cars given half the chance. he is at his garage from 7 in the morning till sometimes 12 at night :scare: He lives cars, he had a 500bhp heinmann tuned bmw m5 unbelievable :thumbs:B)

Interested in this as well. What sort of money is involved for the whole package?? By that I mean:

Price of unit?

Price of wiring looms etc?

Price of setting up?

Even rough costs would be good to know.

Phil can do a really good deal on the fcon, by my understanding there is not much difference between the is and sz just that the is is newer and you have a few more functions on screen that allow you to view everything happening to your car as long as you have a double din screen with aux input.

The price of the unit depending if sz or is vary from £300-£500, must admit phil is the cheapest around.

The wiring looms I think will set you back around £200

Thin fitting it all depends on the mechanic, but you get what you pay for and trust me this is one area where you dont want to save money on a cheaper labour, especially when your engine is concerned, if done pro, expect up to £500, its worth it if you have mods on it and your ecu is rejecting is and also if you are planing to go FI, as this will make it alot safer, when accurate reading of your cars performance is a necessity
