jayrishi Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 I'm pretty bored with the plain boring centre console and was thinking to wrap the whole thing in alcantara. i was wondering has anyone done this and also how it came out. Also want to know would i have to smooth it out to apply or could i just apply the alcantara directly. Quote
GMballistic Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Something like this?.... Never done it myself but here are some similar threads on the subject although fairly old ones: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/16258-dash-re-trim/ http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/1124-leatheralcantara-interior/ http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/21328-alcantara-re-trim/ http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/89402-flocking-dash-who-to-use/ Hope that helps. Jetpilot Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Done a similar thing but the other way round in my build thread below. Personally think the above highlights the plasticky interior more, a lovely trimmed centre consul and then two massive slabs of plastic either side. http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/84921-best-of-both-worlds/ Quote
Tricky-Ricky Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Did this in my old S13 and Supra, rebuilt and recovered the seats too, its not too hard if you are competent with a sowing machine and can cut things accurately, spray glue works well, but a pig if you get too much over-spray or need to remove it later. 1 Quote
jayrishi Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 cheers guys for the help. would i need to smooth the plastic before applying glue and ancatara?? Quote
Jetpilot Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 I would say yes, for adhesion and finish. Quote
Tricky-Ricky Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 If you just use some spirit wipe (you can get it from your local paint factor) and give any plastics/vinyl a good clean beforehand, the glue will adhere well to this, so no need to rub down, rough up first. Quote
