electric roof

Hi, when i press the button the windows go down, seat moves forward and roof catch disengages and thats it. If i then try to close the roof nothing happens, i have to manually push the back of the roof back into the catch

then i can push the button and the windows close and seat moves back.

That's an unusual one. So, if I understand correctly you have:

- pressed the overhead safety pad (the knurled section) and released the catch

- foot on the brake throughout

- engine on (not imperative but helps)

- initial process starts - windows then seat movement

then nothing?

Presumably you have tried doing this several times in a row?

And in hot weather (this makes it easier for the hydraulics and material)?

In which case I would guess at a switch or sensor. Hoping that someone with more knowledge than me will come along in a minute.

Try not to do anything to manually force any movement in the meantime.

Yes thats about it, guess i'll have to book it into a Nissan garage.

Just be careful that they do the proper analysis and don't just throw switches and sensors at it. If you could get to Oxted it would be worth trying Abbey Motorsport. Whilst they don't necessarily specialise in rooves, they are very good at problem analysis and won't just put bits on that aren't needed. There is often a simple explanation. Or there may be a nearer 350Z specialist?

You would be bet off with a cabrio roof specialist than a Nissan dealership.

Try lubricating all the joints with something that soaks into them rather than something that just sits on the surface like grease.

May i suggest that you check the fuses as an initial check.

Then carefully spray all the joints with a silicon lubricant.

Make sure that the car is parked with the sun on the hood. The original canvas hoods are notoriously stiff at lower temperatures and can prevent the hood from opening.

When the hood feels warm and flexible to the touch, you can try retracting it.

If, as other posts have advised, the windows drop, the pax seat back moves forward, the rear cover retracts but the hood doesn't move, then it can usually be a hood retraction motor issue.

If you can get someone to do the footbrake/hood retract switch routine, you can stand by the pax side open door.

Then head in the rear of the cabin, listen if the motors are running. You can also put your fingers on the hood frame and feel if there is any vibration.

This will show if the motors are running, if they are, you may need to service/replace them.

If the motors aren't running, then it's probably a switch sensor problem.

Hope this helps

Sounds like it thinks the roof catch is still in place.

Is there a stuck sensor/switch where you disengage?

I no longer have my roadster to go out and check but I'm thinking similar to the door one where of it sticks the interior lights don't come on etc.
