Long overdue update;

The Monosports were installed at FCM Motorsport in Bristol; who I must add were brilliant (apart from a minor hiccup concerning a handbrake lever). Dealt with a chap called John who bamboozled me with his technical knowledge concerning suspension set up. So I left the car in his capable hands whilst I joined the queues at Glastonbury for a muddy weekend.

As suspected the current coilover kit was terrible (most definitely a cheap ebay set up). Also turns out that the rear of the car was sitting lower than the front! John began by setting up the rear; we agreed that it was going to go higher (circa 20mm) with a raked angle toward the front.

I must admit that I wasn’t sold by the stance at first, which was foreseeable considering that I had been running the Zed pretty low for the best part of three years. My aesthetic concerns were quickly side-lined upon driving it for the first time. So much smoother and effectively care free which means that I can now drive the car how it was designed to be driven, rather than pottering around trying to find a perfectly smooth surface before unleashing it.

Next on the list was a new handbrake! With help from both Keyser and Si (Hide’n’Seat) I managed find a suitable replacement to match my alcantara with red stitch gear stick gaitor. Just need to fit this little beauty (which will probably be a ballache) :lol:.

I had been eager to take the zed out for a proper test drive since its return from FCM; well last weekend marked its first outing to Cheddar Gorge (appalling considering its on my doorstep). A friend of mine joined me for a spirited drive out in his very tasty Z4M Coupe, which was surprisingly quick. The Monosports were truly amazing; super smooth and predictable, offering much more confidence along the ‘A’ and ‘B’ roads. I now look back at the last 18months of ‘umming and ahhing’ and wish that I had taken the plunge sooner. Yes, installed they were expensive; although I actually enjoy driving the Zed now. Well worth it. Here are a few snaps, surprising how many heads the old Fairlady turned;

New wheels and tyres next…..the converted hubs need to go in order to make way for more rubber!

Thanks for looking. Off to catch up on James Juniors 370 build :thumbs:
