88sam88 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Hi all, My ground wire that bolts onto the exhaust has snapped. Anyone know if it affects anything in particular and how I can replace it? Thanks Quote
Stutopia Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Noticed mine was snapped off during my MOT, hadn't noticed it when I was driving up to that point if I am honest, but it felt smoother after it was reconnected. Quote
peteman35 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Dont think its a ground? I think its a braided bit of wire that stops the exhaust completely coming off the car if the hangers fail. I THINK Quote

Dicky Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 (edited) Dont think its a ground? I think its a braided bit of wire that stops the exhaust completely coming off the car if the hangers fail. I THINK I wouldn't think so cos copper isn't very strong. If it were for this purpose I'd expect it to be much stronger material (don't know though). Generally braided copper is used for grounding purposes but why you would ground the exhaust like this seems daft. If it does need grounding for static build up reasons I'd expect the braid to be strapped across each exhaust joint as it's finally grounded at the engine manifold. Keyser Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 (edited) I think you will find it is there to provide a ground for the zorst sensors - however the zorst is bolted to the engine the engine is connected to the battery negative (probably with an extra grounding kit as well as several earth straps) so the chances of it making the slightest bit of difference are slim IMO Mine was not there when I bought the car and I haven't replaced it Edited January 7, 2014 by Keyser Quote
Voodoo Vix Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I noticed mine was broken while polishing my exhaust around about the same time I was getting shocks from touching the car door/paint work, since replacing (£2 job in halfords) I've had no more shocks lol has happened twice now and I soon find out as the shocks start again, might be just coincidence though Quote
sam350z2013 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Just realised mines come off too 😱 ... Anyone know where it's meant to attach onto ? Quote
