nissan specialist in Bucks

Hi,

 

just wanted to know if there are any nissan specialists in the bucks area, i live in high wycombe and think i need the cam chain tensioner replaced which my local garage said would be about £1000 but didnt really want to take it on as you need someone who was prepared to take out pretty much every part and spend alot of time on that one job which isnt the sort of work they like doing.

 

didnt want to take it to the dealer as they they charge to much but wanted someone who knows there nissans so that everything gets put back correctly with no rattles or future issues,

 

if there are any other garages that you would recommend that would be great also.

 

has anybody had their cam chain replaced or the tensioner just so i know that the price they have told me is around that sort of region, just seems a pain considering all it does is rattle for 2 seconds on a cold startup and the car is probably only worth £5000 tops but cant sell it witht that issue, i wouldnt buy it.

Official Nissan time for replace the timing chain/gear is around 4.8-5.4 hours (depend on engine type) plus parts. So labour you looking at £316-£356 at £55+VAT/hour rate not sure if they included the parts in that £1000, but sounds a bit expensive for me. Shop around a bit. (What a shame you are a bit far from us )

Not in Bucks but when I lived in High Wycombe I took my car to Japex for servicing and maintenance. Great service, good pricing and Ross certainly knows his way round a zed.

 

Oh, and Jez at Horsham supplied and fitted my coilovers, more than happy to recommend his services too.

Sorry but your never do the job in the Nissan time's Sly, it takes around 1/1.5 hours to clean the mating surfaces off after stripping the front cover and other items off.

 

I think it is a day work at least , we done a few over the last few years it isnt a nice job TBH.

 

If I was going to do the job I would change all the chains/guides and tensioners to make sure everything was good.

Agree Mark, once you do the job do it properly. Otherwise Nissan's time is only guidance, but even if you spend the whole day on it £1000 in labour would be expensive in my opinion.

so mark is £1000 with parts and labour about right, was probably only gonna keep the car for another yearish and wanted to keep costs to a minimum so would you bother to change the chain and guide etc or is that just standard practice?

If your going in the front cover change everything.

 

will help with selling that it has all been changed;

 

I can supply the parts if needed , will take a week or so to arrive but far better price than Nissan UK prices.

Just had a lot of work done at JAPEX, definently reccomend them!
