ioneabee Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 I'm backing up a mates PC, ready to format - he's got a tonne of stuff in itunes - can I just copy the folder or (typically of Apple) will that be a problem when re-installing ? Quote
Ekona Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 That's what I did when I transferred PCs, as long as it's the folder containing the actual media files you'll be fine. Quote
jjt Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 If you want to do it properly you have to consolidate the iTunes Library. By doing this you effectively keep all the old settings as well, including playlists, ratings etc. File > Library > Organise Library, then Consolidate library. You are then left with one folder with everything in, and if done correct devices that were synced with the old library will still work fine. More info: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 Quote
glrnet Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 As Dan said the media file is the crucial one but the "proper way" is the pro way  Quote
glrnet Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 I didn't do it the pro way Me either Just wanted to know my tooons were safe  Quote
