Beavis Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Does anybody do their own oil changes between the 9000 service interval? How many miles do you do between oil changes? Do you do it yourself or get Nissan to do it. Quote
steve_b Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Did it only for the first one at 500 miles. Used to be the "done thing" a couple of years ago but no-one has mentioned it for a while. Quote
Removed Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 doesn't harm doing it, as frequently as you like really I did mine after the 1200 miles break in period, then always at services Quote
stevie_350z Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I check mine regularly but have never needed to change it between services. I'm on 21k miles now I do mostly longish journeys - min 30miles, often 200+ at a time so Black Beauty is always having a good gallop Quote
Sarnie Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I've not changed the oil ever in between services Quote
lomoto Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Change mine every 12 months even if I havent done any many miles if I did start to do some mileage I would change it every 5000 at least Quote
Ash007 Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 i always do mine half way between services.. and use the silkolene pro s oil and do it myself. Quote

lomoto Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Is there an idiots guide on here to change the oil? if you dont have access to ramps or a lift ..take off front offside wheel and it makes it easier to access oil filter from the side, always work with axle stands plus jack for safety Quote

Pingu2 Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 hmm wanting to change oil tomorrow - anyone have piccies of how to get it done using this wheel off method? Quote
lomoto Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 hmm wanting to change oil tomorrow - anyone have piccies of how to get it done using this wheel off method? You dont need piccies , just take off the wheel have a peer in and you will see filter and drain plug.. remember to use a couple of axle stands for safety as well as a jack Quote
Zzzz... Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 engine oil replacement between services is unnecessary...the purpose of oil is to lubricate and reduce friction damage. These engines get tested and run in conditions neither of us will ever use the engine and for unbelievable amounts of time... on the specified oils and filters... If you have the correct levels, oils and filters , there should not be a need to replace in between services... Overkill, and a waste of money because I am sure you will not buy cheapo stuff...and increasing the damage to the environment... Quote

Pingu2 Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I want to change it because I don't know what oil is using currently - have done 4k miles since I got the car with who knows what oil.. peace of mind is worth the cost I think! Quote
Removed Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I'll keep changing mine ever 3-4000 miles so it means you'll have changed the oil in your Z once just before you sell it then Quote

lomoto Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 ... but you don't drive them I have plenty of vehicles to spread the load, but they all get treated the same for 10 mins of your time and a few quid for oil it's not worth skimping on oil changes Quote
Emperor Ming Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I always do an oil change on any car I buy no matter what the service record says!! Then i know what oil is in it and what condition it is in!! I also change it a couple of times a year irrespective of useage - usually autumn and spring, and do the filter once a year - more often is actually detrimental to the engine. Its an easy job and the local dumpit site will take used oil! People spend literally thousands on mods and bling and then cut corners on oil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From memory the sump bolt is in plain view under the car and there is a little plastic cover to remove for the oil filter. Bare in mind that the filter on a Zed is the same as on a nissan micra so don't EVER forget to change it when its due!! Ming the cautious Quote
