taffyjason Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Does anyone know how much the seats weigh? Quote
DannyBoy Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Assuming you mean the heated electric leather ones, I recall from somewhere they're a little north of 20kg, which I can well believe having taken mine out to do some sound proofing. They are not light. DB Quote
taffyjason Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 Yeah those ones, just looking up aftermarket seats to see what possible weight reductions can be made, Sparco do a nice 'Milano' model, but that's 17kg, so not much of a saving overall Quote
glrnet Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Seems fair enough well you're not invited then! Quote
spursmaddave Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Having shifted some around I would say well over 20kg probably more like 30 Quote
taffyjason Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 so an easy weight save there then! Quote
taffyjason Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 be good to get a definitive figure though Quote
taffyjason Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 done some net hunting, figure of 42lbs comes up a lot, or 19kg to us brits, that includes the rails apparently....any aftermarket seats for day-to-day use seem to be about the same, so no real savings it seems Quote
DannyBoy Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 hmmm, seems odd that you can't get anything much lighter than that. I remember wondering how the hell they managed to make them so damn heavy in the first place when I was taking them out. I suppose it depends on how much adjustability/comfort you're willing to sacrifice, and how much carbon fibre you're willing to pay for. DB Quote
taffyjason Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 Exactly, i don't want a track seat, i want to keep some comfort, particularly as i already have chronic back pain! the Sparco Milano is a very nice alternative though...just not much lighter! Quote
Ian Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 My brides were a lot lighter than oem leathers. They weighed around 6/7kg Quote
taffyjason Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 what's the model name? don't suppose you have a link? cheers Quote
Ian Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I had Bride Cugas. Search google for bride japan & they have the weights on there Quote
taffyjason Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 are they comfy on a decent ride? Quote
Ian Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Depends whether your a chubster or not I'm pretty big & after around 2 hours they would start to get uncomfortable around the backs of my legs. Quote
Niko Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Anyone know the weight of the oem non electric cloth seats? Quote
ddcboyle Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Does it actually make a difference in weight reduction by replacing seats. Id understand if seats, carpets and other cosmetics were removed. Butvseats alone wont make an impact (I presume) Quote
Lukem Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Surely there is no point in buying a Z and making it a little bit lighter, I can understand going all the way for competition use but other than that will you really notice a difference? Aftermarket seats can be very nice and comfy but I wouldn't buy them for weight saving. Quote
Jetpilot Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Interesting topic. I always hear the Z as being described as heavy, where as Rx7's where i have just come from as lightweight! Without getting into what a zed weighs, i have read early Z's weigh 1450 - 1500 kg, rx7's 1250-1300kg. Loose 100 kilos out of a 350z and imho, 1350kg ish is a pretty light car. By all accounts loosing that isnt that hard, seats, spare wheel etc Pretty sure you would notice 100 kgs or more. Quote
