PeteDench Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 So then guys, help is yet again required. car is driving fine, however at around 85mph ish (not on a public road obviously) when the car is cruising there is a strange 'whirring' noise. if i slow down, or accelerate the noise seems to go, beginning to worry me though as its definitely no a rattle or trim noise. could it be coming from the gear box? my technical knowledge is less than zero, so if i have not given enough detail please let me know. any help much appreciated Pete P.s. car is as standard, apart from Cobra exhaust - this was professionally fitted, and noise was there before it was added. martinmac Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 I think this may be one that somebody needs to hear but there are plenty of other owners in your area. Quote
spursmaddave Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I once had a whirring buzzing in 5th gear at 3k revs, a gearbox oil change sorted it. See if the noise changes when you hold your knob Quote
SwanageDave Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I used to get a whining noise about 85mph also and the faster i went it turned into a low throbbing scream, It went on for a while till i kicked the wife out and it stopped all together Quote

spursmaddave Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Thanks for the advice guys, appreciated as always It would be worth getting the gearbox oil changed and adding some molyslip, but you are probably only putting off the inevitable, I know I was Quote
