replacement gear knob

mine looks tatty its on a 53 plate, ive been looking at a replacement, but it appears that the leather surround is part of the base of the knob, how have others got round this problem,or am i being a total plank

You're being a plank.

 

The old knob just unscrews off (ensure you do this whilst using mole grips on the shaft so you don't transfer torque down the gear shaft).

 

Then simply screw your new one on. Tarmac provides Nismo ones, and Alex provides OEM ones.

I made a new one on one of the lathes in the workshop

 

But as others have said it just unscrews lol

I think ZMANALEX has OEM ones in both colours if I can remember correctly from a thread I was trolling. I however decided to go with a £30 one from Richbrook. Looks better than the Nismo/Sparco/OMP etc in my opinion.
