Myself and 5 other colleagues are entering in the 3 peaks challenge; we pay for everything ourselves, but in order to able to enter we need to raise a set amount for charity. We've just set this page up as all our donations go to action medical and it would be great if people off the forum were able to sponsor us.

as for the 3 peak challenge if you've not heard about it we're basically asending and desending the 3 highest peaks in the UK in 24 hours. if you want more info you can check out here http://www.thethreepeakschallenge.co.uk/

is anyone else participating in it this year?

Nice one RT

Not doing the 3 peaks but I am seriously considering the english 3000's an 8 peak challenge in 48 hours for the Meningitis Trust

Less travelling but more walking, this one is much more eco friendly as it dosent involve charging up and down the country in a vehicle for most of the challenge.

Not sure todays roads are conducive to such an event anymore.

Might do the three peaks with work if they go again this year, and they climb mountains at sensible drives.

On another note, i am doing a roadtrip to scotland to climb ben nevis and then scarfell pike on the way back... was going to do snowdon as well so it would be the three peaks in a week, but added too much to the journey time and i've already climbed snowdon!

Did the 3 peaks a couple of years ago in foul weather :( but it was a great laugh. We got lost on Scafell Pike at about 05:00 in the fog but found our way after a few arguements!!!

We did Nevis, Scafell and then Snowdon. We did a training climb on Nevis but it was our first time on the others. You can't really go wrong on Nevis or Snowdown. The trail wasn't as obvious on Scafell but maybe it was just the way we approached it :bangin:

Best advice I can give - lots of food - bananas, chocolate etc, x3 changes of dry socks etc & quality hiking gear. And make sure you get a platypus water thingy - the guys who didn't have them were driven mad taking out water bottles! Dedicated driver is a must!

We stopped for a fish and chips at about 23:00 after Nevis - not reccommended!!! After all the trials abd tribulations we came in with about 30 mins to spare!!!!

All the best!

Chris

Great challenge, did it last year in under 20h raising pennies for the RNLI.

I'd defo' recommend doing a practice walk on all of them if you are keen on getting a good time.

(Did Snowdon twice, Scafell twice and Nevis once before the big day!)

One wrong turn in the dark or bad weather will soon mess you up.

We met a team on one of our practices that had taken a wrong turn and finished outside the 24h.

Nevis is probably the most enjoyable due the the variation of terrain, Scafell is probably the worst!

Snowdon has jog able sections if you are running short on time towards the end.

We had snow and 20m visibility up Nevis on our practice walk, map and compass will be necessary if visibility is poor.

Some big drops!! Plenty of snow up top at times too, combined with 50mph winds means take plenty of layers etc.

Other than that the big key is nutrition, good quality food, little and often!!

Happy to try and answer any questions etc if you have any.

Hope it goes well and you raise lots of money.

And have fun!!
