Tyre advice

Hey tyre gurus I have a quick question regarding sizes.

I am currently running 265/35/19 on my rear (PS2's) and am looking to replace them with Vredesteins but they only come in 275 width. Now I know these will fit my rims but question is: My car has been lowered so is pretty tight around the arches, so will the 275 push out further, if so would I be better getting a lower profile 30 rather than 35 or will this not be an issue.

They have bedded down a micron or two since then as well.

Very much depends on the shoulder of the tyre. I suspect that the VUS don't have the excellent rim protection that the PS2s do IIRC, so there probably won't be anything in it in terms of the VUS touching the arches on maximum compression if the PS2s don't already.

 

I reckon you'll be okay.

Less grip and lighter tyres possibly. But I'm not saying less grip, I just think worrying about having it rub is more of a pain, especially when you find out when the rear gets loaded up suddenly in a corner. You can forget grip then :lol:

 

I'd say stick with the michelins without a doubt.

 

I've got 285's on the back of the zed. Does it need them on a pretty standard zed? Hardly.

haha, well I was going to put PS2's on but pretty much EVERY review says that the vredsteins are equal if not better than the ps2's especially if you consider value for money.

Hardly a budget tyre, just not paying rediculous markup that Michelin place on their rubber. Vredstein have been making tyres for around 60 years so i'm pretty sure they know what they are doing. Also the M3 is staying off the tack so IF for some crazy reason there is any difference in grip whatsover chances are I will never notice it as I wont be driving hard enough :p

 

So looks like 35 should be ok.

No worries, just be really careful as the grip is significantly reduced between VUS and PS2, although there's more feel so that's the trade off. I love the VUS on the Zed but the M3 is another step up the performance ladder. :)

They're not tbh, the feel from the ps2s, the amount of grip, yeah, for me the VUS's on the M3 (albeit e46) weren't anything like as good. You will notice the difference in feel and grip even on the road.

 

That's not to say the VUS's aren't good tyres, they're just nothing like as good as PS2's.

Possibly but most of the e92 drivers rate the VUS as much as the PS2's, only time will tell though.

Just a quick update, done about 150 miles on the VREDS and they are superb, had a couple of DSC flickers when giving it the beans exiting a roundabout (about 60 miles) but nothing since then. Very quiet, smooth, sexy footprint (if you're into that sort of thing) and a nice ridge to protect the alloys.

 

To sum up..PS2's twice the price of the VRED's, but twice to tyre? Definitely not, not even 5% better. Will definitely be getting these up front when the time comes.

Nah, he's just not pushing hard enough to know the difference :p;)

 

The VUS give you so much more feel than the PS2s, that's what makes them so confidence inspiring. You will go quicker on the PS2s, but it takes a lot of nerve to know you can go faster rather than rely on the feedback.

Thing is, yeah I don't track the car and I'm sure that if I did that the PS2's would outperform the VREDS but thats the point, I am driving on the road. I don't hang around either as my jesus handle can testify but for road driving the VREDS are more than sufficient. Infact come to think about it even if I did track the M3 I would be very reluctant to spunk away £1400 on tyres every time I wanted to do so.

 

Point I am trying to get to is the the PS2's are TWICE..yes TWICE the price of the VREDS but why? Because they outperform them so well? Can't be!, so im my eyes Michelin know they own the market leading brand and they know the fan boys will always and only wear some incarnation of the PS2's so they put a bloody great mark-up on them. I'm fed up of being held ransom by companies like that.
