I have never done one in the 2 years I have had my car and now the plenum spacer, y pipe, new exhaust and cosworth filter panel is fitted is there any need ?

My car is running fine(touch wood) so if it is not broke then do not fix it attitude

Any thoughts

Cheers

REMAP it at Abbey, i think that would be the best bundle of cash you spend on your Z :thumbs:quote]

ECU reset is free. :wacko::wacko:

:snack: but it gives you nothing...

A remap from abbey is my plan but until then do I do a reset ?

Really? Surely you have the benefits of all your mods (maybe 15 bhp in my case) until the ECU "re-learns" and takes the benefit away.

hmm I'm not real sure about the increase in hp until the ecu settles... has someone done a dyno with mods and no reset then on the same day done a reset and dyno to see if the mods and reset increased HP?

Pimm, you could be our testmonkey if you're getting it retuned

I wouldn't be resetting the ECU, makes no sense in having the ECU relearn itself in 10miles and then have to reset it again...

Captain, does that reset the automatic behaviour too or is that located somewhere else?

Unsure. I will now go outside (as I reset the ECU last night) and drive like my pants are on fire in Auto.

If I'm not posting in an hour, you can assume I have left the planet due to "noticeable gains".:lol:

you can, you would notice short term benefits until the ECU has re learnt

Probably a difficult question but anyone ever monitored how long the ECU "re-learns"? Is it hours/days or weeks?

dont know?

Pretty sure i have read somewhere that it re-learns over approx 60 miles :)

I'm back  and no near-death experiences.

I can confirm the car definately feels different after the ECU re-set. Firstly, I was being pushed back further in the seat than normal and secondly, pulling away "spiritedly" from some lights, I span the rears and did a nice "Dukes of Hazzard" squiggle down the road. First time that's happened since purchase.

Did about 20 miles so I guess the fun will end soon. I suppose you could reset every day when setting off but can't be bothered. Will wait for visit to Abbey.

what is the reason people re set them?

is it not to do with the ecu re teaching itself but teaching itself with your new mods so then the mods work better, as say the ecu may notice more air from a better filter so it adjusts AF mixture accordingly?

So in my eyes the reason its 'quicker' to start with is mixtures are all wrong and running too rich?

I used to disconnect the maf on my old escort which meant it had no air intake rate reading so it use to be much quicker as it ran richer than a rich mans bank account balance..

Well I am not going to book abbey in until early months next year as the winter will soon be here and I will not put many miles on the car so tomorrow I will do a reset and let you know how it goes.

Captain, Nice to know you got back in one peice  If you are not busy this afternoon you can pop around for coffee
