Millzzz Posted April 4, 2010 Share Posted April 4, 2010 Ok, I've had my PPW Z Fairlady for about a year now & until now, the only problem with it has been that the battery doesn't last too long & I've required to charge it up via a mains charger overnight once a fortnight. The car has a Toad Ai606 alarm system & Tracker monitor installed & I've always assumed this is what's been sucking the extra power. Anyway, the other day I went to drive to the gym & the battery was dead, I put it on charge & left it for 2 days to fully charge. I went to use it yesterday & now even the central locking won't open. NOTHING electrical has any power to it atall. The odd thing is, when I DISconnect the battery, the alarm sounds. Which has never happened before (I commonly disconnect the battery when I go on exercise to stop it draining). Also, when I get in & turn the key to the 2nd position, the alarm sounds again! One thing I forgot, There's 2 flashing LED's (One on the dashboard in front of the driver & one next to the ignition) That are part of the alarm system, neither of these are even flashing! There is just no power getting anywhere . . . No lights, nothing. I am completely stumped . . . ps, any help, please use lamens terms, I'm not overly technical when it comes to cars . . . I charge up the battery using a mains charger, when I put it onto charge, a little light's on the charger (Red for charge mode, green for maintenance mode). Red was showing when I connected it all but 2 days later when I went to check it, there was no light atall. COULD the charger have broken, but as it was still connected to the car, sucked the battery power out? So now it's in it's current, literally DEAD state? nixy Posted April 4, 2010 Share Posted April 4, 2010 that's really weird but if you have a new battery and are still having to charge it regularly then obviously there's an underlying issue that needs investigating. These little none start up issues seem to crop up quite a bit lately. I have a JDM and have had it three years now, it has an aftermarkert alarm (as they all have to have), which is a Cobra, i've never had a problem yet though - touch wood. Hope you get it sorted. I've since replaced that with far better battery & everything was going fine. The battery doesn't get enough charge from short journeys. I managed to track down & take out the Toad speaker thing (Carried on deafening me for a further 5mins after I took it off, so I smothered it in a pillow! lol). On finally managing to take out the battery, I can see it's fine & charged (There's an odd circular window thing that when it's green is fine, black needs charging & clear, screwed). Without the Toad warbler thing, the alarm no longer goes off (I know I've just took it out, but doesn't it have a standard Nissan alarm too? lol), & still, no electronics are working. Fuse maybe? I know there's a few fuses next to the battery, is there any more hidden away somewhere that may of popped? This is most odd. . . . Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have a completely different brand of alarm to you, but had a very similar problem a few months back. It turned out to be a fuse failing on the alarm. Ironically enough, you were right As I was completely stumped, I took my nice, shiny Silver calcium battery down to the local halfords to get it tested. It didn't even have enough power to light the LCD screen on his tester thing! Obviously not impressed. Didn't have a choice but to buy another horrid Halfords battery . . . . Millzzz Posted June 5, 2010 Author Share Posted June 5, 2010 Ok, after 2 more months of getting really threaders with this problem (& dealing with work stuff lol) I decided to bite the bullet, empty my wallet & took it to my local Nissan dealer. Is there not a issue with battery's on the JDM's not being big enough in amps ie only have the small terminals unlike the uk cars where you can fit a larger battery to it. Captain in W-S-M has a similar problem. I gave them a ring this morning to see how it was getting on & Pimm, you were completely right! They ordered in a 350Z battery which to their amazement DIDN'T fit my imported Z (Even though I did tell them it was an import). So they've basically replaced the connectors. Only thing i can think of is when charging the battery do you loosen the caps and check the electrolite is at the right level? Millzzz Posted June 5, 2010 Author Share Posted June 5, 2010 The problem basically was that the original JDM battery had run the course of it's life, I replaced it with a brit battery with the small connectors. Not enough power so all the electronic bits & bobs in the car were using more power than the car was putting back into it. They've put new connectors on it & retested the circuitry & no probs apparentally So my advice, if you've got a JDM & the batts giving up, get large connectors on it asap!
