While cleaning my car the other day i noticed white marks on the polished rim.Looks like water has got under the laquer and started to corrode the wheel surface. These wheels are less than 12 months old and have been kept spotless through winter.I also sealed them before fitting and twice over winter.

I have had a refurbisher out to have a look and he told me they need re turning and laquering. As ESR are no more who could i contact about getting this done.Surely they must be come with some sort of warranty from Nismo.

Not good Wayne :surrender: Mine are 12 months old next month and i have no white marks on them. I have sealant on mine but to be fair the car had very little use over the winter and never saw a salty road. You would think some type of warranty was in place, but like you say who do you turn too? Rays? :headhurt:

Yep mine are the same, my offside front is now looking very bad, two others starting to go, particularly in the centre I have little white lines following the machining, on the rims little blotches that are rising as we speak. ESR told me that had replacements under warranty for me at the building and would be sending out, then wrapped up the company and it was no more, they also have the original bill of sale which has now vanished along with the company.

Less than 12 months old and I need to refurb them, not impressed at all.

I think this is generally why a lot of members change there wheels for the winter months. They're just not protected enough for our salty roads here in the UK

I would agree with that, but for the fact that mine were starting to go in September before the roads were salted. Obviously using them through the winter has not helped one jot.

Certainly not what you would expect from good quality rims such as these.

I usually don't have them re laquered when I get a refurb done. At least you can then repolish them yourself when they get a bit dull.

Trouble is Phil never sent me a reciept with the wheels,if i had a reciept Nissan might have been able to help. They suggested getting intouch with Nismo.I might have to bite the bullet and get them re-turned at a cost of £200 for one wheel.

Cant believe its only one wheel though, all the rest are spotless.

Is it a front by any chance?

That will be the main problem. Once it starts, you cant stop it. The seal is broken, moisture can get in and they will slowly corrode. My Rotas are doing it now where I managed to kurb them dodging crappy drivers in Slough :surrender::thumbdown: Next time I am going to get them fully powder coated with no polished lip as the slightest nick in the laquer and its game over

Also £200 for one wheel is a rip off! I paid £350 for all 4 of my Rotas to be refurbed not so long ago and thats down south where everything is more expensive! My wheels were completely stripped, powder coated and rims machined and finally all laquered. This was done by a very reputable company and they did an amazing job.

+1

I paid £45 a wheel

Yeah i have paid £50 in the past for curbed wheels.

But i was told they need re-turning to get the polished effect,so they need to be sent off. There is no paint on the Nismo rims its done by a lathe then laquered.

The reason I asked was it a front as I suspect there was a bad batch, mine were going under the laquer following the machine lines from the bolt holes and machined edges.

Has got much worse since this pic was taken.

had exactly the same thing with mine mate, it was just one wheel that got worse and worse. The wheel specialist in manchester said that it was common with wheels that have been diamond cut then laquered and they recommended not to re-laquer as it would do the same again.

Thats why i decided to have the wheels powder coated and do away with the polished lip as much as i love the look of them.

Its all very well if you only use your car in summer etc etc but if you use it every day like me they are just not suitable and to have winter wheels and summer wheels is just a step too far for me!

Sorry guys, I assumed that the Nismos were like my Rotas with a powercoat centre and only a polished lip, didnt realise the whole lot was machined. In that case they probably will be very expensive to get done again. It is a problem with machined / diamond cut wheels and although it shouldnt happen, it does. Only way to avoid it, like S1 HNK says is unfortuantely to have them powdercoated

Posted

its only the lip and the centre that are machined, the rest of the wheel is painted just a bright silver. Its just nice knowing that now every night i get home i dont have to go and clean my god damn wheels!!

Sorry to say it but everyone harps on about Rays and Volk being top quality wheels worth the inflated prices and I just don't see it. The ones with polished lips simply don't have the longevity for a regular driver.

they are built for the american market and not for the shitty British roads.

I do think they should make them longer lasting considering the price or at least warn you of the risks. If you bought them through Nissan you would be heart broken considering the price

I dont think its so much to do with the quality of the wheel like you say they just cant cope with the crap on the roads. Lets face it winter's here are a joke and if there is a slight chance of a snow flake falling the councils throw their arms up in the air, @*!# themselves and panic over any safety issues and carpet bomb the roads with a million tonnes of the stuff which instantly reduces your car to a heap of rotting crap overnight.

Lexus have had to change thousands of alloys just because of the crap we put on the roads over here. ;)

im starting to get it a little to!!!

The annoyoing thing like others have said, is no receipt, i never got a single receipt from all the things i bought of phil and asked countless times!!! he even wanted me to make payment each time to his wife's buisness, shunt have been so stupid but trusted him as he kept sayin he would send me them but they never arrived!!!!

I did exactly the same James.Travelled to ESR twice, bought the wheels over the phone and various other bits with not one reciept.I asked him the last time i was there in Sept to do a invoice for all the work and bits i had done by them, sadly we all know what happened shortly after.
