MattMe Posted March 8, 2009 Share Posted March 8, 2009 Hi all. I've paid for an '04 GT and picking it up next week. I got it cheap due to a few things which need doing - service, MOT, scratches on the fronts and rear bumper but most concerning is the fact the airbag light flashes. The guy I bought it off says that he took it to Nissan and they told him that there's a wire underneath the seat that's damaged and causing the problem and that they could disable the light if he wanted. Two things don't sound right - why would a cable for the airbag sensors/lamp run under the seat? And would Nissan actually offer to disable such an important warning lamp? I think not. Does anyone know if there is likely to be a wire somewhere that's damaged or is likely to be something more serious? It doesn't look as though it's been hit anywhere to cause the warning light so perhaps it is just a wiring fault, although there is a scruff on the front bumper. Difficult to diagnose over the internet I suppose! Like I say, I did get a bargain price for it so was willing to take the risk, and just cross my fingers it isn't something too expensive to fix. I thought you were taking the mick tobegin with, took a second for my brain to catch up. My problem is I'm used to old cars and having a seatbelt is a safety feature in some... Getting used to this technology malarky might take me a while... I'll have a look when I get it home and let you know what's up with it. At the moment it's flashing and apparently it's intermittent so I'm hoping it's just loose, or perhaps the wire's damaged. Does it normally stay on solid or flash? 200sx Posted March 10, 2009 Share Posted March 10, 2009 Have a search for air bag reset procedure. That should get rid of the flashing light. It doesn't take alot to disturb the wires under the seat, my airbag light comes on occasionally and the reset usually lasts a few months. Really? I've had my seats in and out the car about 5 times and never had a problem with the airbag light. 200sx Posted March 11, 2009 Share Posted March 11, 2009 I think I have it sorted now. I have tie-wraped the connection blocks to the under side of the seat. MattMe Posted March 15, 2009 Author Share Posted March 15, 2009 Hi again, Another question regarding the airbag light. It's flashing constantly on the dash, which is rather distracting. So in the glorious sunshine of this morning I've poked my head around under teh front and rear of the seats and checked all the connections I can see (including the ones in the seat back and it's till flashing at me! The only odd I thing I had noticed was on the passenger side there's a small white clip in the centre at the front of the seat with nothing plugged into it yet on the drivers side there is. I've looked and felt around everywhere but can't seem to find a loose wire. Any ideas if this connector is normally missing the other half or not? Or do I have to do something to reset the light? Also wondering if I took it in somewhere, probably Nissan, whether they could tell which sensor is causing the light to flash? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
R35LEE Posted March 15, 2009 Share Posted March 15, 2009 Hi mate, it will 99% be the seat connections that is causing the problem. The plug that you see under the passenger seat is normal mate. It's because your drivers seat has 2 switches and 2 motors for adjustment and the passenger seat only has one, hence no need for anything to be connected. The light will not go off by simply fixing a contact problem on the under seat wiring. You need to have it re-set by a diagnostic specialist (they will be far far cheaper than Nissan!). You should remove each connection one by one and reconnect making sure they are secure. Once complete make the call to a local specialist or mobile diagnostic guy in the back of your local autotrader to have fault code removed. Will cost approx £35-64ish. Strange because all the connections look fine at the moment, but like you say I'll disconnect and reconnect them all to see what's what. Any ideas if it will pass an MOT with this light on?? Just follwed the reset proceedure in the link posted by Renegade (turning the ignition off and on 3 times) and it seems to have cleared it. Thanks guys - massive help.
