N1SM0350z Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I recently got a 318ti Msport and love it , but there is just a distinct lack of noise! so im tempted to get a twin backbox like on the 325's but then im affriad its going to sound like a saxo! wich I really dont want. Help! Quote
S1 HNK Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I would guess your better asking this question on a bmw forum where they will have knowledge of different sounding exhausts on the a 318. Quote
N1SM0350z Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 I am on one forum but its naff (compared to this one ) Just thort I would ask people opinions. Quote
S1 HNK Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Fair enough mate, i always find you tube really good for listening to different exhausts. I think if you you went for a nice milltek or magnex backbox you will get a more beefy note without sounding chavy. Quote
N1SM0350z Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 Yeh I have had a look on there but they all seem to be E36's not E46's. Worst case scenario is i buy one , it sounds like a saxo and i take it off Quote
N1SM0350z Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 Well ive only just gone this one so its along way off! and im not planning on spending a huge amount, not a full system just a back box. Quote
T8 JPE Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Go for a good brand not to sound like a chap, Either Milltek or a bmw tuning house like Hamman, Schnitzer or alpina. My neighbour has got a milltek one on an e46 m3 and it sound a hell lot better than the standard one. Maybe this will make the difference. Quote

N1SM0350z Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 BMW - BMW E46 316/318i 98-05 view That should probably be the one how much ££ we talking? Quote
rtbiscuit Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 also try hayward and scott, they do very good systems, but are not the cheapest in the world, i had one on my last car, very good quality and not chavy. Quote
Ekona Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 It's a 1.8L 4-banger, I'm not sure I'd bother. Spend the money on some new dampers or something that'll make a difference to the drive rather than make you sound like a Saxo Quote
N1SM0350z Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 Fair enough point but im not spending a great deal and im happy with the way it drives, I wouldnt do that id rather buy a car that performes better in the first place, And insurance is bad enough as it is Quote
IanS Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 A good induction kit may give you the results you want... Providing you dont go for a really big exit on the back box sure you will be fine. Have you considered getting a second hand exhaust from a 325ti or something? I recally they had quite a nice exhaust note as standard and look nice. Quote

IanS Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Good point, did you make a decision on what you are going to get? Quote
N1SM0350z Posted January 14, 2009 Author Posted January 14, 2009 Nope, I looked for used 325 exhausts but they were all E36 or complete systems Think i'll leave it, may look into an induction kit, but then they all sound similar too , probably best to just leave it alone untill i get another car (Z?) then maybe go for modding properly Quote
Matt T Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Dont get a Scorpion or H&S for the BMW (going from my experience with E30 M3, and assuming a similar story on the E36 and E46) Quote
