Roadster – different problem…

Sorry about this, my second question in two days, but I have only had the car a few weeks.

At the last phase of opening the roof, the lid (tonneau) is not closing completely and stays open a couple of inches. by raising and lowering a couple of times, I can usually get it to shut down.. Doesn’t always do it and it doesn’t do it when closing the roof.

I found a problem and you can see it in these two photos. It’s a new one on me, haven’t seen it before, but one side of the lid seems to come forward too far. and it’s catching on the trim.

Any ideas please?

Bring it to me and I will guarantee to fix it for 1K

Might be a plan to get a professional inspection, diagnoses, and quotation local to you before you venture North to PH2 6EZ.

If you bought the car wisely then perhaps a warranty claim or not fit for purpose claim is in order, Also depending on how you paid is also worth exploring.

Thanks. An expensive problem then. It’s under warranty but I’d be pleasantly surprised if the roof was covered, the sales chap said it was but he would wouldn’t he.

Cayman isn’t far away so I might ask them to take a look.

I’ll take another look at it tomorrow.

Thanks

Lots of good tips here. The roof is in good shape and it works fine apart from the lid shutting correctly on one side when opening finishes. It looks like a mechanical adjustment to me but we’ll see when I’ve had a poke around. First step might be a visit to Caymen for a diagnosis if I can’t figure it out.

If you require any parts for the roof just let me know as I will have everything in stock.

Also, if you want a copy of the workshop manual regarding the roof mechanism, then just let me know.

Just a quick update. I had a close look at how the open and close operation works, particularly at the heavy hinges on the lid. The lid wasn’t coming down evenly both sides. I sprayed them with WD40 and rocked the lid a bit. Then I found if I stopped and started it as the opening process completed it was fine.

I’ve used it a few times since and it all works perfectly, but I’m pausing as it closes to check its aligning the lid ok. So far so good. Stiff hinges then? We’ll see how it goes.

Thanks

Neil
