Nissan Shepperton - I wont be going back

Thought I'd let you know about my service with Nissan Shepperton, a shame it's been so poor, because I virtually live next door :)

I'd owned my Z for a week when it went in for a P3, I'd taken advice from the guys on this forum, so had done the usual checks when I bought the car, for the items that seem to go wrong most regularly.

The service went okay, but they kept her in overnight, because they were running late and gave me the following advice -

1 "The rear drive shafts are clicking/knocking when changing gear, you need to get that looked at"

2 "Your brake pads are 80% worn all over, you should get them changed asap, they are brembo import brakes, different from the UK spec car, it'll be £260 front £140 rear" (I actually challenged them on the pad difference bewteen UK & Import spec, after talking to you guys, and they told me that they had tried to fit a UK spec pad and it wouldn't fit)

I'd been listening for the drive shafts when I bought it, couldn't hear a thing then, and still can't, maybe you need a specialist ear to hear it?

I collected the car and driving into Hammersmith that evening, was being repeatedly flashed, found out that they'd been mucking around with the lights and had blown a fuse for the fog light, causing the rear light bulbs to blow, so I was driving into London with no rear lights, thanks boys

Today, I got around to fitting new pads all round, 80% worn seems pretty bad to me, so figured I'd better take their advice and get them changed. Of course I felt the £400 bill for a brake pad change was a bit stiff, so I bought the pads and set about the challenging task of fitting them, expecting this to be reasonable challenge, especially with the price tag from Nissan. Brembo callipers, easiest pad change I've ever done, took 30 mins to do all four wheels. What dissapointed me was the actual brake wear, probably 40% - 50% worn on the front, and maybe as much as 20% worn on the rear.

What a bunch of incompetent. rip off cowboys. I'll be avoiding them in future, and I suggest you do to.:boxing:

Welcome to the land of the converted bud. I am afraid I would get a second opinion on anything a dealer said. Not suggesting they are always being devious, its often that they dont have the knowledge of the range of zeds to know the answer.

totally agree on the knowledge martin but in this case ... brake pads !!

Anything thats different and they seem to want to buy from another supplier, I know one on here that supplies Nissan. Why not stick on another few quid.

  • 4 months later...

Just doing some hunting through servicing threads. I live about 2 miles from this dealer - just quoted me £185 for a P1 with me supplying oil and filter.

Spoke to Dan Perkins at Slough....some mixed feedback but for the basic P1 they gave me an 350z-uk discount to £140.

They did my P3 last year and i didnt have any complaints.

It seems that quite a few dealers tell the customers that their pads need changing, when they still have plenty of meat left on them. My dealer, after the service recommended i book it in for a complete pad change, when in actual fact i still had at least 50% left on them, not 20% as they suggested. Obviously its a little money spinner for them, charging megabucks for half an hrs work. Advice is to always get a second opinion if you're not mechanically minded. A lot of garages, ie, kwik fit etc offer free checks. So bear that in mind at the next service ;)

the dealers advise on pad change with a view that you will return after 9k miles....so they approximate the wear and tear on current pads....having said that..

majority of the people at nissan service havent got a clue on what they are doing...and the dealers who do know their stuff are brilliant...and get a lot of business from Z owners who swear by them...

so mised bag of fruits....most of them rotten though!

Wilsons Nissan told me pads were 70% gone on the fronts, fair enough... Ordered Endless pads from Kev, They just forgot to tell me that the rears were metal on metal!... Lucky Kev at envy was able to supply at short notice to another garage...

Funny enough I was thinking afterwards that I hadnt given them the locking wheelnut, so there was no way they could have seen if the rears were worn!

Shame we havnt got a joint dealer league between the 2 sites as these guys wernt even on the list...

Perhaps someone could sort one out on here as a sticky on the same grounds as the one on the OC (http://forums.DELETED.com//ind ... opic=10087) and then we can combine the info once a month or so?

Also need to do a joint Main Dealer Service Cost (http://forums.DELETED.com//ind ... opic=14959) so that people can see the best price service deals....

Just a thought!

May be usefull to put some sort of note in the guides section just as a heads up for members that there is absolutely no difference in the pads required for the Brembo callipers regardless of whether UK or JDM and irrispective of year of manufacture, everything on the Brembo equiped cars is the same.

Just trying to find a way of helping all Zed owners so they know whats going on where and who is good and bad :)

totally agree but the other site has to play ball aswell by allowing links to this site like it does with other 350z forums across the world. We allow links to OC.

As you said it's for helping all Z owners. Perhaps something you could put to them 3FIDDYZ
