Colin747 Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 I just picked my 350Z up from a dealer earlier today but tonight I noticed that the gap between the boot and the roof are not the same, I've attached to pictures to show what I mean. It's the upper corners of the boot lid, those "wing" like ends where they meet the boot just above the side windows - hopefully that makes sense.... The boot struts had been replaced by the dealer before picking the car up but I cannot remember if the gap was present before they were replaced or not. Quote
jumping350 Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 (edited) boot struts have gone on upside down need unbolting and bracket needs flipping round the other way Edited January 21, 2017 by jumping350 1 Quote
Colin747 Posted January 21, 2017 Author Posted January 21, 2017 (edited) Does this look incorrect? This is the side the bigger gap is at. Edited January 21, 2017 by Colin747 Quote
SHEZZA Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 (edited) Yes that's incorrect and a common mistake when changing the boot struts, as above the bracket with the two bolts in it needs unbolting and flipping around. Edited January 21, 2017 by SHEZZA Quote
Justthejedi Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 Yep, as above. Done it myself, easy to fix though. Quote
Colin747 Posted January 21, 2017 Author Posted January 21, 2017 Thanks guys, do both of these need flipped or is it just the one on the bigger gap side? Quote
Colin747 Posted January 21, 2017 Author Posted January 21, 2017 That's great guys, many thanks!! Quote
Colin747 Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 I swapped the bracket around but the boot strut keeps popping off the ball joint on the bracket when opening and closing the boot a few times. It doesn't seem like it's going all the way in, any hints/ideas? Quote
Colin747 Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 I'm guessing I need to put the strut on the ball joint and then try to get the wee clip/spring back in? I seem to be having trouble getting it into the hole once it's pushed onto the ball joint Quote
Stutopia Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Mine popped off once immediately after replacement, ball joint and the little clip weren't seated quite right. Once they're on correctly it'll be fine. Quote
Colin747 Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 OK, this strut doesn't doesn't seem to be fitting correctly on the ball joint. It looks like it needs to be pushed further in for the spring to fit but I can't get it to go any further. Would I be safer taking the bracket off and seating the ball joint and then bolting it back onto the car rather than fitting the bracket to the car and then trying to seat the ball joint? Quote
Stutopia Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I'd deffo try that if you can't seat the ball joint otherwise. Quote
dutty Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 I had this problem after the pig came back from the wrap shop. Thanks for the fix denizens of the past! Quote
MDMetal Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 There should be a thin bit of wire along the socket which is what makes the ball "pop" into the socket and retains it, make sure this is present, fitted and not bent/loose Quote
