Advice on two way radios- particularly our Scottish members

In preparation for a Scottish jaunt I would appreciate thoughts on two way radios so we can communicate between six cars

Looking at value for money guide price £30 ish per unit, may be flexible but use this.

Concerned about range given the terrain

As an example the Motorola T60 @ £60 a pair with 8km range would seem better value than the retevis h777 @ £28 a pair with 2.5km range.

Also need to consider in car charger v's base charge overnight

True hands free for any solo drivers

Thanks

Hey Dave,

Me and a few local zedders had chipped in to get a set of these each

We bought 10 for £100 so worked out a tenner each and we've used them on a number of drives out and also came in very handy on the Wales trip too. Ours came with the handsfree earpiece too so was easy to drive and talk at the same time. Great fun and came in very handy when the person in front was able to tell us when the roads were clear so we could overtake on blind corners as well without worry :)

Zedd and I bought a pair of Motorola T80 before we went on the Wales trip this year http://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorola-TLKR-Extreme-two-way-radio/dp/B00ANG0M18

Turns out Rob (Mudman) had a pair as well so enabled 4 of us to communicate in convoy.

They seem pretty good to me

You can also get them in sets of 4 http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00RBKYK5I?psc=1

How about some CB Radios?! Yeeeeeh haarrrr good buddy, thats a big 10-4.

One thing id say about hand held radios, is that you are sitting inside a metal object, and any portable device with an aerial on it will struggle with a long range unless you have a roof mounted mag-mount aerial. But if your just in convoy you should be fine!

Not that we did that of course !!!!!

Dave - It was one of these that I borrowed on the Wales weekend. I have to agree with Chirag they worked well.
