I like to think I have finesse with pedal feathering.... Maybe I don't? Would have thought the IAM would have picked up on it though! sorry mean joke, you may well be smooth with the pedal, but the TCS will only kick in if you give it more beans than it thinks is required. i found in the zed if you do it from standstill it doesnt like it, but if you get rolling first then its much happier and won;t kick in on lift off.

thats becuase they don't have accelerator pedals, they have the new on/off switch upgrade
-
thats their way of saying; sod off! they obviously don't want the performance cars.

K Sport - whats peoples thoughts ??
rtbiscuit replied to Tarmac@TarmacSportz's topic in Tarmac Sportz
from what i remember the K sport is a copy of the AP racing caliper, so it should be pretty good -
agreed, i love driving in the snow, if you can control a sliding car in the snow, its easier to control it in the wet
-
i agree driving with no TCS makes for a better driver, i know on the S2k it had nothing, so you made sure you were always on the ball when driving it in the wet and snow. i would say i'm far more observant of road and weather conditions more than most. i'm hoping to do the IAM this year as well

no pictures, i think my mate mark has them on his computer, or they may even be in the MR@ROC back room somewhere. i learnt the hard way, doing a 360 off a wet roundabout across 2 bollards, 2 signposts and stopping 3 inches from the central reservation. my first RWD car and i was 23 i thought i was invincible and a driving God; i learnt otherwise, and thats where i gained respect for how to drive RWD properly. the problem with the MR2 being mid engined and RWD which most on here won't have experienced in the zed is that when the car starts to let go there is a very small correction window beofre it snaps and spins. i had a good grasp and ability in the car, but the one wet day home from work when i wasn;t paying attention and tired. it bit my arm off. the crash wasn't that bad, and more an issue of pride. the car was repaired and all was good but i then i had the increase in insurance premiums etc. you end up paying for it long after the crash. I have since then done driving days airfield days, track days etc, and just general 8 years of driving RWD. most people i find accelerate to early out of corners or go to fast in. they don't balance the throttle well with the weight of the turn. they use the throttle like an on/off switch. the biggest thing with RWD is being smooth, thats the throttle repsonse, steering and braking, etc even on the limit, with the car breaking traction; if your ham footed you'll spin, thats not to say you can't drive aggressivly; but you need to be smooth while doing it. i qualified for the Nissan Free race last year, and out of 500 entrants i got down to the top 50; i saw alot of very cocky and confident drivers down there, and alot coming from FWD who had not been in RWD before, and it was very funny to see the difference in their attitude coming out of the car compared to going in. any fool can go fast in a straight line, but it takes skill to go fast round a corner. and if you're breaking traction while doing it (unless you intend to drift) the car is no longer in control and going to lose speed in the corner. just becuase tyres are screaming doesn;t make it fast.

Both my MR2 roadster and the S2000 had no TCS or driver aids; and i drove both through the winter, the MR2 was intersting as well as it was mid engined. and it was the car i learnt the hard way with driving limits etc. nothing wrong with no TCS you just need to make sure you know how to drive it. as i and husky have said nefore, leave it on in the wet, turn it off in the dry. or if your not confident or inexperienced in RWD then leave it on all the time.

wow some of you need to get some tyres that fit better

cheers Protegimus, good info; i have now made a filter decision; just waiting on some suppliers to get back to me on price and then i'll post up on here.

funny on someone elses car, but not on mine

i would say the BMC would be a good option, but i'm not sure people would want to pay that much for a filter. The Do-luck stuff is well respected, and offers a good option. i could probably get pipercross at the cheapest price, and as said before they used to make stuff for nismo, so nissan obviously liked what they were doing. but people don't seem to go for it and i'm not sure why. i've tried to pick brands that other traders on here aren;t doing so as not to step on toes etc. i know you can't please everybody, but there must be a happy medium etc.
-
thats why i also like the BMC panel filters as they are a dry filter. although on the K&N website they acutally state that there is no link between oiled filters and MAF failure http://www.knfilters.com/faq.htm#27

i regualrly have to do this to clear my browser, if i leave the forum on, it slams all my other tabs, as if it crashes the browser and i have to shut down the browser and restart all the tabs. -
meh! crack on i just want to try and get the best possible filter for the club members at the best price i can to make the biggest difference possible to their performance of their cars. if it requires a bit of club debate but at the end everyone is happy with the choice then fair enough. at the end of the day i'm not a big trader, i'm just trying to help members get what they want. best bang for your buck scenario etc.

i'm trying to find the actual article, but can only find reference to it. lots of other forums talk about it, but not found the actual article. i also added the BMC on there, it is the most expensive, but they make great stuff, and very few people seem to know they exisit. they build a lot for motorsport and F1 teams. as for cleaning the do luck ones, you can use a K&N filter cleaning and re oiling kit and you can get them from halfords.

As you may be aware, i am sorting out a conversion kit for the pre facelift air boxes and some of the people on there would like a performance filter at the same time. I was interested to see if anyone else would like one as the more ordered the cheaper i can get them. and if so what would people like/willing to pay. i have put a selection up and the kind of price they are currently available for on the internet. some are more expensive than others. and was this a put off factor, or do people not mind the price as long as its good. my primary choice for the conversion kit is the Do-Luck filter, it is apparently the best filter for the 350Z and offers the maximum gains for the car; so for those going for the conversion kit i though tit would offer the best chance of maximum gains. but at the end of the day its only going to be the difference between 1 or 2 BHP. This is an extract about the jap performance magazine test: In an independent ‘shootout’ between 7 panel air filters, Do-Luck out-performed all of the competition! In the coming edition of Japanese Performance magazine there will be an interesting feature on a group-test of panel filters... Conducted at Scooby Clinic, using their Dyno Dynamics rolling road, air intake temperature remained the same (16-17°C) and two power tests per filter were taken. Filters tested were: K&N ITG Pipercross Green Cosworth Do-Luck All filters were tested on a standard 54-plate Impreza WRX STi 2.0-litre, which was originally fitted with a standard panel filter. The results? The pre-oiled Do-Luck foam filter Gave a max BHP of: 297.7 (12.9 BHP extra over the stock filter). Its nearest competition giving 10.4 bhp... “Japanese Performance found the Do-Luck filter produced the best performance gains, throttle response and power curve characteristics. According to actual test data, the best value for money filter is Do-Luck and it also produced the most amount of additional BHPâ€Â
