if you need to check a fault code then this plug in reader worked for my HR
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00JA0LNQQ?keywords=obdII&qid=1441965275&ref_=sr_1_8&sr=8-8
no live data stream but i can check codes, freeze frame data and reset the error. which is just fine for my faulty front end sensor, means i can check a warning light is the known fault so it's doesn't hide any new problems.
it's cheap and might get you guys going for trouble shooting, but it's no replacement for a bluetooth adaptor and app with live feed.
-
well none of the cheapest guys will quote with a mod, so i'll say £1.5K as i've seen some obscene numbers already

August 20th/21st sounds good to me, haven't checked other dates but at this stage it looks like this is the main choice anyway. May do a vanishing trick at one point as we have friends in the area that would be good to see but I want to get in on the main drive so we'll fit it round that

luggage net + postage for me please how much would that come to?

welcome and i hope i can flesh out a bit more info for you
the zed doesn't like standard petrol because it can backfire at higher revs which can cause damage (there is a very scary pic floating about the forum of a cracked piston). so you can drive on normal petrol, just keep the revs below 4K, don't fill the tank and get some decent go juice in her asap. the difference between the petrol ratings is how much compression they can take before they explode due to the compression. this explosion happens before the spark which causes the backfire and stresses on the engine that it's just not expecting
standard DE's seem to be just fine. rev up can be oil drinkers. HR can lose oil internally (oil level is fine when standing, oil pressure is low while driving). personally i have an HR and know what pressures are normal so as soon as i see her start to drop i can just get her booked in to have the offending part replaced. other than those issues the zed engines are very solid and designed to do 200K miles. the clutch however isn't, that can need swapping between 40K and 80K so bonus points if a zed you're looking at has just had that done. though some sufferers of zeditus take a worn clutch to be a good thing as it's an excuse for an upgrade
the engine revisions all come with a higher rev limit, peaking at 7.5K for the HR
DE's of both types are cheaper to mod. the HR doesn't need breathing mods though as they fixed that weakness with the dual air intakes.
as already mentioned nismo over here just means a body kit. though it looks like a new forum member has a JDM nismo and if he doesn't start posting more details soon i think some of the forum members are gonna hunt him down and take their own pics
also i got my zed in wales, and i'm based in kent. i've seen plenty of people driving between england and scotland to get their zeds too (drives going both ways). well worth the long drive!

i've only had my 2008 since august but the stock cd player has been just fine for me, so you might get lucky. i read that they were prone to skipping too, but maybe that's something that like a lot of teething problems would have been sorted out years ago?
as for the power, i went from a 130bhp FWD car to the zed, the compare sites had plenty of offerings at very good prices, the only catch is none of the ones quoting that low will touch modifications. not even cosmetic ones. talking to one guy he said it's to avoid the "max power crowd". so maybe pick a nice stock zed, enjoy her for a year as is. then next year you can go with a specialist insurer that's happy to do you a deal because you've proven you can handle the car. ahh, to be insured on my own merits not what ever stereotype i've been bucketed with, next year is gonna feel nice! my old company wanted to double my premium because of the power increase, the ones quoting didn't care what my last car was.
p.s. the m20 is still nice late at night when it's just you and the trucks, and having the base speaker pointed right at your back... tis a good car to cruise in

after you do the pedal dance does it need a certain drive cycle to calibrate? or would it be fine on just town driving or just motorway driving?
-
Thanks for the meet, looking forward to the next in approx 3 months time
-
and just to add to the confusion, rev up is an engine version, up rev is some tuning/mapping software
-
So taking rich's link and filling out the rest of the data we get this
rev | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th 7500 | 44.9 | 73.3 | 105.0 | 134.0 | 170.2
no idea how much that will compare to reality given the frictional forces at higher speeds but if you spun the wheels in air that's how fast they would be going.
also you can poke about in the manual, nissan give some figures of the max speed you can shift down in. i think they say don't drop into 2nd above 66mph, so that gives us an indication that 2nd can get close to 70mph
edit: aaaand it killed the carefully lined up spacing in the code block. rabble rabble rabble! there, let's see if the bars make it a bit clearer
-
fingers crossed
looks like i wont be able to wax today

Does Matt have to be so surprised that a nicely modified Zed can be a great balance of fun, grunt, grip, balance and daily drive-ability?
Cool vid. I wish that drive was my commute
i don't, imagine being stuck 20mph under the speed limit as you wade through rush hour traffic on a road like that, it would be torture!

don't forget the pics as soon as you canCorrect. I pick it up tomorrow. It's so pretty!

Gratz on the zed
As for where to gey bits from just take a poke about the site. There are several traders for all sorts of stuff and also a wanted and for sale section.
If you can't find what you want then make a thread and chances are someone will know where to find the part you're after
-
Or get them to snap a pic of the engine? Fingers crossed for you
-
Noooooooo! So close yet so far!

most people get fluffy dice to hang from the mirror, i guess you're just going to have something a little different dangling from your mirror...Christ how hard is it to control a bike!
Slap your colleague as well - I'd go mental if someone did that to my car
I may have been taken aside by my manager to ask me not to call my colleague a c*** when everyone in the office could hear...I think he almost broke down in tears when I told him how much a new one will be if I can't repair it. He also damaged my last car by deciding to stand on the bonnet and I told him if it ever happened again I'd castrate him...guess I better keep my word

about the dipstick, the DE has a weird dipstick that is fiddly to use, the HRs is kinda normal and as you'd expect.
HR's will cost more to mod due to the dual air intake and i expect just generally lower numbers of cars sold so smaller market to cater for.
the HR revs higher than the DE
edit: and don't forget the HR started in 2007 so there will be some cross over between the DE and HR in that year. bonnet bulge is the first indicator but some people like getting that as a cosmetic upgrade for the DE. so be sure to check for the dual air intakes too once you're decided on which to go for.

Didn't last as long as I'd hoped, put the 3rd shot in but haven't been able to find a few days for her to sit yet so that didn't really help. Might look into a more permanent fix but it was great to get the fuel gauge working properly even for a while so I could learn how far I can get on one tank. Now I don't panic as much when the fuel gauge goes mad for the last quarter.
-
Looks like I'll have another riding with me for lunch, do you need passengers on the list or is that just for the cars? I'm still very new to all this
Rs200, I will be passing that way but I was aiming to be there for the start of the meet.
Ging4, posh or not, are you gonna give it a go? This will be my first meet of this style too

i can't see any difference in the speedo on that vid. keep pausing it and the only time i spot a difference is when one has just shifted. catch them both on the power and the speed looks the same. hard to tell if that changes as the top end as the camera looks away right towards the end. i guess the only way you'd be able to tell is after repeated trials in a controlled environment and some accurate equipment. the difference isn't enough to really notice a performance gain in a simple test like this.
so it just looks like a choice between rapid shifts and long shifts from a styling perspective.
