Hey all! Sorry I've been away so long - lots and lots of work that got a bit out of hand! Anyways, I'm back now ... to hijack this thread. I'm after a bit of help with the 370Z Service Pack I won at last years' Wales meet - the oil (genuine Nissan, 5W30) is marked as 'DPF' (vehicles with a Diesel Particles Filter) and features the text "Nissan genuine motor oil formulated & exclusively approved for Nissan diesel engines equipped with Diesel Particles Filter (D.P.F.)" on the back..! For obvious reasons, the service guys at Middlehurst Nissan refused to use it during my car's first service. Jez at Horsham Developments passed on this message from Nissan: "You are right the 5w30 is the same oil we use in 370z unfortuaty Nissan put DPF on the tin . The tec spec for 370z is Genuine NISSAN engine oil, API grade SL or SM, This is the same as the "dpf"oil" Does that sound right? Obviously, I'm not questioning what Jez was told, rather whether it's correct! I'd need to be strongly reassured that it's ok to put this oil in the car before it ever got near the Z again! At the same time, I'd rather not throw away my raffle prize! Tell me about it In terms of the bad dealership experience, I do think it boils down to what a few others here have already touched upon - dealerships are not direct representatives of the car manufacturer. Despite being the most 'official' way of buying a new car in the UK and all the brochures/flags/logos, the dealer-manufacturer relationship is barely different to, say, Nikon's relationship to Currys. As a result, the salesman's business of selling a car is no different to the guy in Currys trying to flog a digital camera. While that's the fact of the matter, I'm not saying it's right, either. Dealerships are very much styled to look like they represent a brand, yet the manufacturers seem to be little bothered about the actions of the dealerships (who, I'd guess, the manufacturers would say don't represent them, only sell their goods). It's almost as if the situation would be better if either of those things were fixed; if I walked into a dealership (perhaps with various brands of car in the showroom?) and came away with the strong impression that they weren't affiliated with Nissan (as Currys aren't with Nikon), then maybe I wouldn't expect as much from them... OR manufacturers should be significantly more focussed on the actions of the dealerships, accepting that they do represent the public image of the manufacturer and should therefore be managed better. When I got my Z4 M Coupe a while back, I read online that you could take the car to a dealership once and have them reprogram the key to do things like automatically lock the car on drive-away, etc. I did just that (Halliwell Jones in Chester), was given my car keys back with a friendly smile and went on my way. Until 2 days later when they rang to tell me I owed them £45! I rang and spoke to the manager there without any luck, so I then rang BMW to complain. The result of that? BMW just rang the manager at the dealer and told him to ring me again. So he did, gave me an arsey rant and that was that. If BMW had really cared all that much, they'd have taken the time to get the full story from me, the full story from the dealer and then (in this case) given the dealer a hard kick up the behind. Instead, the service they provided was simply to pass on my message to the dealer, which was hardly supportive of a customer who'd just been conned by that dealer! A plain-as-day example of the 'nothing to do with us' attitude both manufacturers and dealers have with one another. I drove a TTS a while ago when comparing against the Z4 M Coupe (I think, although it might have been the Z4 sDrive35i that I got next!) - lovely interiors, but if you're looking for a really good drivers' car, you'll enjoy the 370Z significantly more - the TTS lost out to the BMW when I had a go and the 370's better again! What gets me with the TT in general isn't so much the front-wheel-drive chassis, etc, etc but that it just doesn't feel as much like a sports car as some others do when you're not flat-out - pottering about in one feels identical to pottering about in a hatchback. In the 370, you always feel like you're piloting something more serious and hardcore, which I guess was the image of the 350Z too, and why you get so many more people craning their necks than I ever did in either of the Z4's The steering's weightier, as are the pedals and the gearstick actually feels connected to the mechanics of the gearbox. The trick that the 370 plays so well is that despite being a less nice place to sit than the Audi, you still get all the good toys and gadgets (folding mirrors, sat nav, reversing camera, iPod control, touch screen, built-in hard drive, etc, etc depending on age and model), so it's only really a case of some missing nicely-stitched leather and better plastics rather than actual toys. In return, you get something that'll run (four) rings around the TTS Obviously, I'd never recommend buying a car without a test drive, but assuming you're after a decent driving experience and get a test drive that might let you just scratch the surface, I bet it'll be a walkover Double-especially if you're ever thinking you might take the thing on a trackday - even the TTRS (apparently) doesn't do that very well. Clearly, I'm biased, but hopefully that's all of some use - like me, you've obviously got a leaning towards the posher sports cars and are perhaps wondering if the 370's a bit too crude in parts. It's not, and I think it's the gadgets that do it - I didn't get along with my old Mazda RX-8 PZ partially because the interior didn't feel like the more expensive car it was and also because it was pretty basic on kit, whereas I love my 370

Hi Sally, The V5C lists my car as "370Z GT EDITION V6" (y'know, rather than the 3 cylinder diesel model ). Anyways, that's irrelevant seeing as you've already correctly identified that the one you're looking at isn't a GT Ed based on colour. The GT Ed is/was available in storm while (pearlescent with glittery flecks), black and black rose (metallic black with red flecks in it). Does the one you're looking at have red brake calipers? If so (and it has a plaque on the silver bar behind the seats and an extra chrome bar underneath the 370Z boot badge), I believe it's a 40th Anniversary Ed.

Had a similar experience with West Many Manc myself around April this year - turned up the first time to drive a 370 (having booked and arranged exactly that), was told I could go out and have a look at the car, get in, etc while waiting for the salesman... Car turned out to be locked, so 15 mins of searching by other salesmen eventually revealed the key, followed by another hour to hour-and-a-half wait before we gave up. Decided to attempt it again and got a test drive that time around (I was, and always have been, willing to go anywhere in the country to buy a car, but didn't really want to go all that far to simply decide whether the 370 was for me or not - I always find that being sure you want a brand and model of car before you start negotiations on a specific one is advantageous in terms of negotiations), but then was offered a stupid amount for the 09 BMW Z4 sDrive35i that I had to trade... So I went to Norwich to get my 370Z GT Edition from Desira instead They were the the UK's 370/GT-R highest selling dealership last year, I was told. Although it was just a case of calling, making an offer on the car, giving the details on my Z4 (always a bit annoying when the dealer tells you it's a 'lovely looking model and spec' when you arrive to trade as it makes you think you could have got more had they seen it at the start of the deal!) and then going to collect it, I had no problems, which is all you can ask really! Just in case it matters, the guy I eventually got my test drive at West Way with was called Jack - seemed a nice enough guy and was willing to let me give it the beans on the motorway We've come at the 370Z from two different directions (me with the Z4, you with the GT-R), but it's a fantastic, brilliantly fun drivers' car with a great community here with plenty of meets and events to get involved with It's definitely something you should consider an added extra that you won't find on the Nissan spec-sheet

+1 Especially for something like a 370! That said, I've always been a fan of a dark grey paint job Then again, the blue, the red (rare) and the white (I'm bound to say that, aren't I!) look the most fantastic to me Anyways, along to the forum!

To be honest, I'd already been considering an upgrade to a Scorpion in particular pre-Wales, but the sounds at the meet pushed me over the edge It was following you, though, that changed my mind from the stock-esque Scorpion design to the rolled circular style - it looks fantastic on the Z, without being too OTT Funny how, when weighing up the tip options on the Invidia, the single-walled tips sounded like a great idea seeing as the diameter would be larger (the roll of rolled tips always going inwards, of course), but it's actually that thickness when looking at the car directly from behind that makes all the difference Hi Will Thanks! Hehe, I didn't, but I'm glad it did, in that weird sort of way The stock exhaust didn't sell (thought I'd leave it go seeing as I'd gone through the torture of eBay's listing forms!) and it didn't have much chance here after ZMANALEX hijacked my sale thread so I've packaged it up and hidden it away into the attic Like you say, I may well get a descent amount for it come moving-on time Looking forward to another meet now that my car's actually making some noise!

Still, good to know the option exists if I do ever want more shouting Ahh, interesting! So on the 370Z, you can still benefit performance-wise from mods without an UpRev, but then the UpRev can be used to either squeeze absolute performance out of them, or cash in on MPG gains for the same level of performance? While we're on that topic, did I read that various UpRev maps are made available via the cruise control/speed limiter steering wheel switch? If that's the case, do you lose access to cruise/limiter functionality? --- As for exhausts, I finally got out and made a (very quick and, upon getting back to have a proper look, very bad!) video of my Invidia Gemini: . If I get a chance soon, I'll get out again with a tripod and a better stretch of road, but at least that's something to go on for now Can't recommend it highly enough

Nah, just the exhaust system for now. Tbh, I think I'm more than happy with the sound levels as they are (although ask me again in a couple of months ) - I really don't want to end up with it sounding 'boy racer' or too intrusive at a cruise. How would HFC's alter the sound? Would they just turn the volume of the existing note/tone up, or do they alter it in some way?

Well, I went and did it! Invidia Gemini with the rolled stainless steel tips from Tarmac Photos of the pieces here. I'll get some videos and post-install photos up as soon as I can... The car needs a good old wash first after the salty rain this week! Superbly built piece of kit, I'm over the moon with it! Very Another suggestion I'd make would be to take those red calipers off and, um, hand them to me Think I prefer shot 6 - the guy obviously went for the largest aperture setting he could get away with in the bright light on 5, but due to the angle of the car, the aperture's so wide, even the rear is falling out of focus. That, and the sky's blown out. I'd still crop 6 to the same frame as 5, though. Oh, and photoshop the reflection of the off-camera flash out of the front bumper Either way, awesome shots of a stunning car - definitely desktop material! Wonder how much a stealer would charge to order in the 4 red calipers..?

Hi Mark! Yep, same whine noise here in my 370 (only 4,000 miles) when in neural and with the clutch out! Only noticed it about a week ago, but seems to be a characteristic of the car as others have said. Might just be me, but it seems to have quietened since I first heard it (I've been taking opportunities to leave the car in neural and with the clutch out while at lights etc, thinking I might speed up the process of the noise disappearing). I don't get a crunching (like you'd get when trying to engage a gear without the clutch, say) when going between 1st and 2nd, but it is an awkward and notchy shift, probably made worse by the fact that our cars have very torquey engines, so tiny alterations in the position of the accelerator pedal along with the clutch pedal at the wrong moment can cause a fairly difficult shift if you're trying to be smooth! You haven't mentioned it (although it might be what you're hearing on your 1st-to-2nd shift), but another common issue is a nasty clunking sound when you're in a gear and you press the clutch pedal. It's just the clutch plates releasing, but doing it at the wrong time/speed can cause that noise (often, I think, if you stamp on the pedal too quickly). It'd be more noticeable between 1st and 2nd simply due to the speed, although I presume it happens between any gears. The clutch sticking to the floor and excess vibration issues sound more serious, though - let us know how you get on with a dealer as I'm sure it'd be useful to everyone if you manage to get it all sorted - if they do something to fix the neutral whine issue, I'd get my car in for the same fix, too!

Goodyear's Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 (and the version 1 before it) always aced the big mag's tyre tests, usually followed by whatever the latest Michelin Pilot Sport was. Having used both the Goodyear's Eagle F1 Asymmetric (version 1 on my old Z4 M Coupe) and the version 2 (on my old Z4 sDrive35i), I can confirm that they're absolutely brilliant. Either would wipe the floor with the Bridgestones on the 370. I'm sure the Michelin's would too (they were a very popular choice on the Z4 M), although I know that they often have a reputation for more road noise than other options (possibly as a side effect of being relatively slow wearing), so I'd do a little research on that, seeing as the 370 can be a bit marginal in that sense already. All of the above is assuming that the Goodyears and/or the Michelin's are even available for the 370! Like R35LEE, though, I'll be tempted to swap for another pair of the Bridgestones when mine come to be replaced - the 370Z is so well sorted and pretty much won't let go in the dry on them, while the wet grip is pretty poor, so you can still have a challenge and a wrestle if you want it Having the massive dry grip in the wet as well might be a tad boring, I wonder...

Interesting, think I actually prefer 25mm as the arches follow the curve of the tyres more accurately, rather than looking like they're squashing them

Ruddy hell! I would have thought 30mm would technically make it 'submerged'! Facebook still have work to do on the ads...
