i'll consider my oil cooler fan a success oil feed and scavenge pumps now run 30% slower with the fan
-
A little update for you although this project is pretty much complete I am still finishing things off and sorting out a few teething problems some of you may not be surprised to hear that the oil system is one of these issues. on a run it's fine but as soon as you slow down or sit in traffic the oil temp rises the fitting of the small oil cooler into the system helped but without any air flowing through it oil temps are higher than i would like. the temp is lower than in a conventional oil system but still a little high for the electric feed and scavenge pumps this could be a reason why they fail quite regularly in the STS systems ? so to try to improve the situation I've fitted a 12v fan from a Honda Scooter I had to make a new oil cooler mounting bracket to take the fan the fan will run off the feed to the oil feed pump so as the pump speeds up to make oil pressure as the oil gets hot so will the cooling fan at least that's the plan for now will try it tomorrow

I've seen this quite a few times even came foul of it myself with my conservatory but luckily i work for them so just a quick phone call, sadly we don't go as far south as you sorry

is this a pumped main or a gravity sewer we're talking about here ?

it's not low at all the speed bumps are just really bad you can tell by the huge chunks missing out of them the coilovers i love no crashing and rattling like all my previous ones on other cars i think the softer springs compared to most have really helped the car stays much flatter through the corners, less roll and it's a really comfortable ride i don't have a bad word to say about them.

Seems i pushed my luck a little too far for the local speed humps took ages to get it off had to take a hammer to it just to get to the fixing bolts never mind the replacement showed up the other day a wire brush, a coat of rust killer and a couple of coats of paint and it's all well again now just need to find a safe route to my mates house without going over those speed bumps

the badges i cant stand but the rest i like for some reason but i quite like ugly when it comes to cars (and women if i'm drunk enough)

ok so i know there have been no real updates for a while but i have been busy fitting new suspension http://www.350z-uk.c...s-bc-coilovers/ i've also fitted my TXS wideband O2 controller (thanks for the routing advice Chris) working with the UTEC ECU i can now log all of the data against the AFR from the data so far, the APS turbo map i've been running is doing a really good job, unlike my wastegate which is either too small to bypass enough gas or the springs too strong and needs changing hitting 8 psi and boost still rising I'm hoping it's the spring but expecting it's the wastegate I've got a lighter spring will try that first i didnt have this problem with the GT35 but it had a much larger hot side

better than standard ride but mine were leaking which is why i changed I've only driven around the block to allow it to settle will give it a proper run tomorrow after i adjust the ride height but first impressions are excellent. Keep us updated now that i've adjusted the ride height and tweaked the settings in the shocks i have to say i'm really impressed the ride is more comfortable than my stock setup and feels more stable on the road ride height is set about 10mm less than standard and shocks set to 5 clicks all round may stiffen this up slightly yet time will tell also i may have been a bit eager fitting the suspension i forgot about the rear adjuster extenders i assumed that you could fit them from the inside didn't realise access to the top of the shocks is non-existent so had to drop the shocks to fit them it was very easy though didn't even take the wheels off. hardly noticeable

If someone said aliens have landed I'd be less shocked I was going to be sarcastic as is my way but I know what it's like i drove rover 214 for a couple of years (piece of s**t) for the same reason you've got to get your priorities right I hope you come back into the fold at a later date when finances allow and as SIPAR69 said you're a very positive presence on this forum even when you're taking the P**s so stick around don't worry we won't shun you for selling up Good luck with the sale and house buying -

fitted the coilovers today had every intention of documenting it but other than the hassle of getting it on axle stands on my sloping drive it went so smoothly i just didn't stop 4 hrs old suspension off new coilovers on I do need to adjust the height at the front as it's too low and need to fit the rear adjuster extenders but other than that it was easy no specialist tools needed although i will say access to some of the nuts and bolts was a pain if i could have got the car up a little higher it would have been easier

i doubt it but don't actually know

both my front shocks are leaking and the rear feels pretty soggy so i placed my first order with the Cougar store for a set of BC Racing BR series Coilovers I got the 8/6kg as opposed to the more commonly used 10/8kg version of these. So first things first the Cougar Store I got exactly what i wanted at the price i wanted to pay no fuss no problems ordered 7 PM Sunday and they arrived sometime today how good is that packaging was excellent. The 8/6kg springs are only slightly stiffer than stock spring rates since i don't want a harsh ride and plan to drop the height by less than 25mm this is fine for me as i said the packaging was excellent thanks to much cardboard and bubble wrap all arrived undamaged also i think some people charge extra for the flexible rear adjuster extensions not so here all included I hope to start fitting Friday depending on the weather and the wife I'm sure after 70,000 miles the suspension wont come off without a fight Thanks again to the Cougar Store for making the start of this process easy.

thanks Chris didn't realise this came out so easy on standby all next week so won't get this done until Friday when it will probably rain

gave the car a bit of a thrash today and one of the jobs i've been putting off reared it's ugly head I've been using the original maf housing and pipework luckily it gave out at the top of my road i only needed to do 5 mins welding to fit the proper pipe but it's been too hot to weld so i left it that will teach me never mind all done now also while i had the bonnet up i drilled out the pcv valve actually drilled it out 1mm bigger wont hurt to have the extra flow I've also got my TXS wideband o2 setup working with the utec ecu so it will log my afr alongside the other data from the ecu should be interesting trouble is i've tested it by running the o2 sensor cable out the passenger door and under the car ok for testing but need to run the o2 sensor cable to about where the ecu is and i dont really want to drill any holes any ideas welcome

I've been wearing overalls thick rubber gloves and a hard hat all day i hate summer the only thing it's good for is working on the Z
-
My suspension is pretty soggy and one of the front shocks is leaking i'd like to keep the standard level of ride comfort maybe go 1/2" lower any recommendations bearing in mind i live in the county of speed bumps and pot holes i like the idea of coilovers but all of the ones i've had on cars in the past have been too hard ?

my sports cats are japspeed perfect fit even went through the mot but the quality you get does seem to vary quite a lot so maybe i just got lucky

I dont have a sump removal tool or dead blow hammer so had to make do just dont have the space for everything i really need to move i want my own z shed
-
got the ally sump fitted today as expected a bit of a pig to get off as they are just put on with a liquid gasket but i found the perfect tool to remove it without damaging the upper ally part of the sump its off of my multitool pretty straight forward job drain the oil then put the sump plug back in as you wont get all of the oil out of the sump and you dont want it pouring out when you remove the sump undo all of the 10mm bolts holding the sump on thats the easy bit i actually had to hammer a small wallpaper scraper in between the upper and lower sump to get started then managed to slide the multitool blade around the edge to cut through the liquid gasket being careful not to damage the upper sump as it's ally sounds easy but my poor hands say different. then drop the lower sump which may still contain oil mine still had about half a pint then clean the gasket off the upper ally sump i used the same multitool blade and finished with a bit of brake cleaner use what you like to clean the surface i just happened to have brake cleaner, apply liquid gasket to new sump and fit, tighten up evenly cant remember what the torque setting is had to turn the water hose slightly that goes to the oil cooler as it was rubbing on the sump but other than that a perfect fit i'm not sure what the capacity difference is compared to the standard sump its at least a litre more on the road my oil pressure has gone from 20-25 psi at idle to 30-35 some of this increase may be from the fresh oil but not much as it's only done 600 miles since last change so the majority of this change must be due to lower oil temps dont know what else to put it down to i'm even using the same oil also while i was under there i got a pic of my modified cat with the extra o2 sensor in it which i did in my previous post

Women aye - and the things we do to keep em happy tell me about it when we were looking at equipment for our gym she decided she had to have the same cross trainer as she was used to at david lloyd £7 F*****G grand £7 Grand You could have a life gym membership for that!!!!! I'll count myself lucky it's just a kitchen rebuild and a new utility room (and before Mr G gets in a library as well ) But wait until you see the new garage I'm building so gonna be worth it The trouble with gyms is waiting around for equipment and irritating tw*ts we don't have those problems. Got to admit I'm pretty jealous and excited about the garage and it's not even mine' it's top of my wish list we've got the space to do it but no access through to it I'm just as jealous of the library also, I read a lot at least 2 books a week I'm reading 4 different books at the moment my missus says 3 kindles is excessive hope the garage goes smoothly once the kitchen and library are sorted, and that 3 phase supply wow i thought i was power hungry you need to install a wind turbine before you have the eco warriors after you for that huge carbon footprint of yours maybe i'll get to see it one day
