  1. My cars going in to have front bumper and a few other bits and bobs painted on 14th April.

The body shop is also going to carry out a full machine polish when its in. The owner said it would take about a day to machine polish my car properly.

He said he will prep the car wipe down with IPA then machine polish then wipe down with IPA again and finish off with a coat of wax.

My question is, would I be better getting the car back without a final coat of wax and apply a coat of sealer then a final coat of wax myself?

  2. It should cost 200 to get a decent machine polish done... Not sure how they can make money on this price.

Yeah I had my brand new e92 in alpine white detailed and cost more. But i used a detailer and i forgot the guy at this bodyshop offered machine polishing service.

  3. So you've used the place before, were happy with the work, are happy with the price quoted for this work, but you're asking a bunch of strangers on the internet whether to go with it or not?

Question regarding machine polishing. The guy said he will prep the car and clean it all down with IPA wipe or whatever body shops use, lol. Does this eliminate the need for claying before machine polishing?

A second opinion is always welcome, lol. Plus I was wondering if any advice would be given regarding machine polishing etc, like make sure he......

  5. sounds too cheap, bite their hand off

If I didn't know the owner and I hadn't seen there work i would think it was too cheap too. The very same place did some work for me on a few occassions.

When I had my 350z i wanted him to paint the bumper and remove a trickle charger port from the front wing, fill and paint it. Can't remember what he quoted me, but i remember he offered to paint the whole car for £600!

  6. I took my Z4 to a local bodyshop who have a brilliant reputation and I have used in the past.

I asked for a price to paint my front bumper (few stone chips), paint both wing mirrors (slight scratches), prep and paint my chrome and silver kidney grills gloss black (can't buy genuine BMW and only matt black after market available for e86) and finally to prep and machine polish and wax my whole car.

They said they would need my car for 3 days as the machine prep and polish would take best part of a day. They quoted me £200.

Does this sound good value? I'm happy with the price and I've saw lots of there work and it's always excellent.

  7. I was driving along the M8 near Glasgow on Monday and their was a VW golf driving in the BMW lane of the motorway at 50mph. I had to undertake it in the middle lane and to my surprise her kid was standing on the front seat looking out the passenger side window with no seatbelt on.

I've absolutely no sympathy for these cretins and the mother should spend a week in jail if caught!

  8. Ive been seriously looking at a cayman s but imo they are only marginally better than a 350z 313 or 370z. Up here in scotland the cayman s is still pretty rare, so thats a good thing. But the Zed's are even rarer. But i must admit the price of owening a porsche is putting me off a bit.

Im guessing you havent driven one then, or by "marginally" you mean "the width of the English Channel" - there are less than half as many Caymans as 350's on the roads as well.

Its really good to see that so many people think so much of their 350's, but they just dont measure up to 996's IMO - build quality, performance, image, everything is better in the Porsche, thats why age for age they cost twice as much before you even consider the GT's and Turbots. The Cayman is closer but it was still 30% more expensive when new, at the end of the day its going to be better in most aspects.

yeah i've drove a cayman but only on a short test drive. I'm no expert btw just what i thought. I no longer own a 350z, ive got a z4 3.0si coupe which is a great all round 2 seat coupe.

  10. Last year i paid £260 to insure my BMW Z4 Coupe 3.0si with churchill.

Got my renewal in last week and it had went up to £458 after a phone call they reduced it to £408.

I tried a few companies and managed to get it down to £297 with Tesco.

Churchill are advertising 80% discount for drivers with 8+ years NCB. I did an internet quote as a new customer and they now offer a multi car discount as my wife's car is insured with them and a multi product discount as my home insurance is with them. The quote was for me and my wife driving up to 8000 miles per year with legal cover, basic courtesy car cover and basic breakdown cover £148.

The compulsory excess was £300 and a voluntary excess of £350. I reduced the voluntary excess to £0 and the premium went up by £2 to £150.

I called them up to make sure I could get the new quote price and they simply priced matched it onto my renewal quote!

  11. That will be Davy chan, not a nismo tho! Frot splitter, side steps, frot fender changed and rear splitter. He has spent a fortune on his zed but it looks well. Oh and an indivia exhaust

Yeah that's the car, white car with black splitter etc. is he a forum member Jay?

  12. Yeah my 2012 E92 sport plus edition coupe came with the 313's. Good looking wheels and really easy to clean. But look naff if you have small discs and callipers on a E92 2.0l. I'm buying CSL replica's next week with a staggered fitment birth quite a concave dish on the rear and a slight concave on the front. I was quoted £1180with hankooks. Guy phoned me back and said he had a clearance set for £600 with budgets fitted!

Thats a good price! I just forked out £752 for a set of new tyres for my 123d alone!

I bought my wife JCW replicas and tyres from them 2 years ago she now needs 2 front tyres, so I contacted them to see if he could get me that brand of tyre to keep all 4 matching. He said he could but could take about a month. Then he called me back and said he could do a brand new set of same alloys with new tyres for £250 if I traded the old wheels and tyres in! The 2 tyres alone where costing £120 and her 2 front wheels need a refurb. So 2 setsof alloys with tyres for £800!

  13. Cheers guys - appreciate the sympathy and the general direction the discussion then took!!

Back on topic, if the filler bolt wont come out after penetration oil, heat, etc... then I plan to drain again, remove the LSD cover and attack the bolt from the inside. If that fails, then I'll have to get my hands on a new cover (maybe a NISMO one!) :)

Can anybody tell me if it is possible to remove the cover without having to take the whole diff off the car?

    Cheers!

You should start writing erotic books! "Penetration oil" now. Lol

  14. You may not actually have made the swirls: More likely you simply removed all the crap that had built up over the years, and you could simply see them easier.

But yeah, lots and lots and lots of lube, and keep folding the clay. Throw it if it gets too dirty or if you drop it, too.

The car was 2 months old when I did it! Lol

  15. No, the cleanser just removes fine polish & wax residues. Claying removes much more than that. Even the instructions for the cleanser say to clay first, I believe.

Thanks, I'll need to learn how to do it, because I scratched my wife's mini to death 2 years ago when using a clay bar and lube. I used plenty lube but i think it was too warm a day. I didn't use much pressure either! I had to get a full correction detail carried out after i made an arse of it!

  16. Clay before any polishing

Claying removes any final contaminants so you don't work them into the paint with the polishing phase.

I use AG SRP followed by AG HD cleanser then finish with AG HD wax. Does the HD cleanser do the job instead of the clay bar?

  17. Do you still have to clay your car if you have washed, de-tarred/ de-contaminated, machine polished, sealed and waxed.

What would the clay bar remove that a good tar remover/cleanser and machine polish wouldn't?

I was going to wash, remove tar and fall out, machine polish, seal and wax. Anything I've missed out?
