  1. I've seen wildly different prices for zeds online and locally. I've had mine 2 months and absolutely loving it, spent 5 hours detailing it today, never did that on any car I've owned in the past 25 years, and I've owned quite a few, just something about the look of it ! Anyway, I paid £17k for my 08 GT coupe with 30k miles, I bought it from a local car supermarket, got a really good deal on my trade in, actually I got exactly what I paid for it 11 months ago, and I'd put best part of 12k miles on it. I got a nice clean zed with a full Nissan service history, a few stone chips and a serious dose of road rash on front around air intake, but I've been lead to believe this is normal as the paint on Japanese cars is hyper soft, but the car is tidy, tight like a near car.Although there are a few rattles and squeaks, driver side window has an annoying squeak/rattle, and I've just noticed a little rattle today, sounds like the taligate, and the brakes squeal when braking at slow speeds, again I've read these are all normal with zeds. I was just wondering If I've paid over the odds for my car, I'm a cynical old b*stard and I've always distrusted car dealers, so I'd love to hear what others have paid for similar spec'd zeds ?
  2. yeah I agree, my zed doesn't feel as fast as my ST Fiesta did, but I look at the speedo and yikes I'm doing a ton Whats that all about ? Maybe because its a deceivingly heavy car ?
  3. I'm up for the over 50's old fart section. As for being cheaper than a mistress I have my doubts. £435 road tax, £450 on tyres, and an obscene amount of money on petrol in 2 months ! But some things you can't put a price on.
  4. Yeah 370Z Sat in the 40th Anniversary edition at my local Nissan dealer last friday, was very nice But I've only got my zed 2 months, so I'll leave the 370 for a while yet, wife'd kill me
  5. You should be on the radio with material like that
  6. I've recently bought an 08 350Z GT coupe. I was in the market for a Ford Focus ST or at a push an RS , never even considered a 350Z. I'd been looking for a Focus for 3 months, had test driven several, and to be honest I was well impressed with the cars, but I'd been too late for all the clean low mileage examples I was after, I work shift work, so they were usually sold by the time I was on my days off. I was heading home after having a test drive in a 09 ST Focus, and on impulse called into a local car supermarket to see If they had any ST's, they did, but they were "dogs". It was there I spotted the 350Z, I asked if there was any chance of a test drive, there was, and I did !!! What a revelation I drove the car on a 30 mile test drive, on B roads and some A roads, and on my favourite road, the B101, a smooth, windy mountain road (part of the Ulster motor cycle Grand prix circuit) I was hooked. I'd never driven a car like it !! The Focuses were a distant memory. I went back to the dealership, tried to play hardball, but bottom line was, I had to have that car. I spent the whole weekend on t'internet, researching the Zed, comparing prices, reading reviews etc and first thing Monday I bought the car 2 months on I'm still loving it, I use any excuse to go out in the zed, I get up at 6:30 on nice mornings and go for 50 mile "runs" to anywhere. I've never done this in any previous car, and I've owned 12 or more new cars. I've had several strangers complimenting me on my car, again I had never experienced this. All and all its a fantastic car, and I ended up with it due to a chance sighting of it sitting in the dealership. So how did you all end up with a Zed ?
  7. I recently spent £XXX on detailing products to shiny up my newly purchased Zed (the numbers have been omitted on the chance the wife ever found out how much I'd spent !) I got some Dodo juice supernatural, Lime prime, Meguiars clay kit, Supernatural shampoo, lambswool wash mitt, MF cloths and some other bits and bobs, but on impulse I also bought a Kestrel DAS-6 with the megs polishing kit. I was talking to a friend who owns a Subaru STi and he kinda put me off using Kestrel, all sorts of scary stories of paint burn etc basically he sez Japanese paint is too soft for a newbie power polisher to be let loose on Anyone got any advice, experiences or general hints or tips to get the best from this piece of kit, or should I as my friend suggested, stick it on Ebay and pay an expert to do it properly ? Not being one to ever shy away from a challenge, I'm reluctant to go this route, but I dont wanna make a mess of my pride and joy. The car has some slight swirls, a lot of stone chips on the front grill/diffuser ? area, I'd like to get it looking even better so I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanx
  8. Good choice of tyres. I put 4 on my zed 2 weeks ago, replacing re040's on back and Autogrip F109 on rear(came with the car when I bought it) Best £400 I've spent in a long time, great grip wet or dry, car is so sure footed now. Dunno about the longevity of the tyre tho, last tyres I had this grippy were Toyo T1Rs on my Fiesta ST, was down to 4mm (fronts) in 3000 miles. Enjoy. P.S got mine from Camskill, great price but their choice of courier left a lot to be desired (Citylink)
  9. I was in my local Nissan dealership today and they offered me 2 years Ultimate extended warranty with RAC roadside for £539, looked at the details online, it looks a good deal. Anyone here bought this, made claims for repairs from it ? Any comments would be ,most welcome. My manufacturers warranty expires January next year, so there's no immediate rush.
  10. I dont have any of these, got a big sub behind drivers seat and the push out thingy on passenger side looks like some kind of coin holding drawer, wouldn't much much good for anything else, defo not a cup holder (08 350Z coupe GT)
  11. I brought my 08 Zed to my local nissan dealership to get my spare key re-coded as it wouldn't work when I bought the car one month ago( bought from a local independent) I reckoned maybe 30 mins to recode the key. An hour and 20 minutes later I saw the mechanic bring the keys back, and after 15 minutes no one gave me a shout that my car was good to go, so I went up and asked. The service guy picked up the keys, muttered something and disappeared back into workshop. He came back 10 minutes later and said he had to go to my car as the radio keycode needed to be re-entered. I tagged along and sure enough they had somehow managed to lose my keycode (Bose) I asked how they had managed to do this and he gave me some b*llsh*t that recoded the key had caused it. I'm an electrical engineer so I said that was a crock, that someone had obviously disconnected the battery. The service manager said that was not the case, long story short, I was there for a further hour while they pulled my stereo out, checked the serisl and got the code from Nissan ( I didnt get a code when I bought the car) I had been listening to Radio 2 on the way to the dealership so I know it was working. Anyway my key coding eventually took 2 hours and 20 minutes. Anyone have any ideas as to why this happened, or why the mechanic would have disconnected my battery. Is this level of service or should I say bad service typical of Nissan ? It was Charles Hurst Nissan Belfast (any Northern Ireland zed driver care to comment? ) Downside was I missed most of the Holland Brazil match, but the upside was I got to sit in a new 370Z 40th anniversary edition and a GTR £60k and some for the GTR, but i was tempted , who needs a wife anyway Anyway enough dreaming, I welcome any comments regarding my first Nissan dealership experience. On a side note the mechanic told me he had 2 Jap import GTR, one had a seized engine, was sold without oil, another had a fault with steering angle sensor and the owner was looking at a £3k+ bill for a fix !!! Don't think I'll be buying an import !! Oh yeah on last thing, they tried to sell me 2 year extended warranty, ultimate, comes with 2 years RAC roadside for £539 seems like a good deal to me, anyone have any comments on Nissan extended warranty ?
  12. I've never seen Tesco 99 in my area (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) can anyone from this region confirm If it can be bought in Northern Ireland ? On the topic of Sainsburys being supplied by the same distributor as BP, I once owned a diesel Sri Astra and filled it with diesel from Sainsbury as my wife had a voucher giving me 5p a litre off the normal price. The car ran like a dog, it felt slower and less responsive than the stock performance I had before I had a remap done, I never used Sainsbury fuel again after this.
  13. Now I'm confused, If I alternate fuels week on week, aren't I effectively mixing the two octane ratings and getting a hybrid eg 96.5, going up or down dependant on the mix ratio and then won't the ECU adjust accordingly ? Just a thought, my background is electrical engineering not mechanical or chemical engineering.
  14. I've read on this forum that Nissan recommend using super unleaded. I've had my zed a month and used suoer for my 1st couple of fills. Then it got more expensive, £129.9 per litre so now I'm filling on average a half a tank every week, so to keep costs down I'm alternating week about, unleaded and super unleaded. To be honest I've noticed little or no difference between super and standard performance wise. What are the drawbacks ? Future probs with injectors? Any advice, comments would be most welcome. I used to put super in my St Fiesta and it definitely gave a performance boost compared to standard, but it not so obvious with the zed.
  15. Excellent post which explains a lot, to me anyway. I bought my zed a month ago, haven't driven a rear wheel drive since the 80's, my zed had Re040s on front (at least 6mms of grip), and brand new Autogrip F109's on rear. The car seemed fine when driving dry roads, but would get twitchy on one particular stretch of road on my way home from work. A gradual left hand sweeping bend, my traction control lights would flash and as a welsh friend so succinctly phrased it my a*rse was making buttons. Dunno why this particular stretch of road caused these problems, maybe a strange camber or poor surface. I started wondering at this point had a made a mistake buying the zed, having been driving fast fords for the past few years, front wheel drive, but very predictable handling. Then as is the norm here in Ireland, it rained, what a nightmare, the car frightened the life out of me, on good roads that I know well, the handling was horrendous. As per suggestions on this forum, I bit the bullet and replaced all four with Falken 452's. Best £400 I ever spent, it was a different car, I've clocked up nearly a 700 miles in 2 weeks, in dry and wet, a roads and b roads, motorway and not so much as a hint of traction control coming on. Being a miserable sod, I was reluctant to change what were effectively almost and in the case of the rears actually, brand new tyres, but I'm soo glad I did. As someone said I've spent best part of £17k on my car, why jeopardise it for the sake of a few 100 pounds for a decent set of tyres.
  16. Very nice, good luck with the 70. Now my head is melted, have had my 350 a month now, I'm loving it, and now I hear the 370 is even better No , can't do it, I'm tempted to test drive a 370 , but I did that with my 350 and I had to buy it, I was actually looking for a Focus ST or RS, but the 350 blew me away. I'll give it a year, watch this space
  17. Very nice, so when can you come round and do mine ?
  18. As a proud owner of my lovely zed, I've noticed for the first time that complete strangers will come up to me and compliment me on my car ! This has never happened to me with any other car I've owned, and to be honest I'm not sure how to reply I normally just say cheers, and look a bit sheepish, its a strange sensation to be honest. Anyone else have similar experiences ? And if so, what do you say ?
  19. Welcome on board ! I now find myself on my local filling station owners Christmas card list But its worth it , never had so much enjoyment in any car I've previously owned.
  20. Finally this weekend I got time to get 4 new tyres fitted, Falken 452's, replacing a set of re040's on front, and Autogrip f109's on rears, these tyres were on the car when I bought it. What a difference, cabin noise is much reduced, the car is so much more sure footed, I feel I can go hard into a corner now, previously the car felt like it was gonna let go in a spectacular fashion anytime I went too hard, even on a gradual bend. But enough of my wittering, my question is, now I've changed tyres my economy has dropped from 21-22mpg to 18-19mpg in one weekend, this is possibly due to the fact that I am driving the car harder than before, but do different tyres have differing mpgs ? I'm not complaining, just curious a 15 to 20% drop in economy is nothing when compared to the fun I'm now having with my new zed.
  21. Very nice !! I've seen some *scary* posts regarding powder coating and wheels falling apart. Is it an urban myth or is there some truth in it ? are there some "dodgy" practices in the powder coating world ? I must say rtbiscuits wheels look the canines testicles
  22. Nice job Alessandro, I take it yours are painted ? How hard wearing is the finish ? Can any Irish forum members recommend anyone who can paint alloys ?
