  1. Gave myself a scare thinking the runout was wayyyyyy off on the diff..... turns out you shouldn't check it on the part of the ring gear where they have I.D. markings lol.

0.03mm so well within spec just need to use some paint pen for checking the mesh of the gear and then back plate on.

These are my spares as they tend to crack, however, this is what you need:

Yes they would be nice Alex and if I was properly going the turbo route I would want a set of them or the JWT manifolds but I am happy to plod along and eventually plan to test how much I can get from my Vortech SCi small blower.

But I like to tinker and plan wayyyyyy wayyyy in advance, so took a punt at trying to play with some 300zx manifolds I got off ebay for £70.

Is your spare set a VG30DETT with a new flange cut and welded on?

  3. Just thought I would start a post for anyone searching the internet and stumbling on a post that implied that it was a straight fit. Well it isn’t.

I have a spare VQ35DE head (passenger side I think) and bought some 300zx twin turbo exhaust manifolds off eBay VG30DETT engine.

The vq can have exhaust studs in multiple configurations and the VG manifolds looked like they might just need them swapped around.

Well the middle port and studs match up perfectly. . . The front port only has one matching stud point and I am not sure if there is enough metal to grind away on the manifold to make the other stud point work. Also there is a water port (I think) on the vq head that would need the flange area reduced but it’s close to the threaded bolt hole.

The rear port is slightly forward of the matching one on the block but could be fixed with the dremel except the part you would need to dremel is the area you would need to make the stud hole larger to have the rear most stud line up.

    :-/

    i will post pictures later.

not sure if I would like to use a manifold adapter plate and how effective they are?

Amazing how companies store electricity though, it isn't all in batteries - they use hydropumping stations so use the spare electricity to pump water to an uphill reservoir then when demand increases for power they release the water which runs down through the turbines creating electricity. Clever stuff.

I remember seeing a project where they used kinetic energy regeneration in the form of a slight gradient with some rail tracks and huge weights which are pulled up the hill when the energy is in abundance or cheap then when the energy is needed again it is allowed to roll back down the hill to create electricity similar to F1 braking.

No doubt some idiot would get run over when out hiking.

Anyone actually interested in FACTs on UK energy generation there is a whole government department website for it.

Latest report is Q1 2019, shows UK grid demand continues to fall - 6% compared to Q1 2018. Renewables generated 35.8% of UK energy in Q1 compared to 16% for Nuclear. I suspect by the end of Q4 2019 renewables may even match gas for UK electricity generation.

    https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/electricity-section-5-energy-trends

Fact= a few reactors have been offline for a long time due to outages so the power generation is well below their normal target.

car production industry is buggered recently = lower energy use. Just because figures show something doesn’t mean it shows the big long term picture.

At least use Google just once before making up imaginary  'facts' :).

UK grid demand is FALLING not going up, nuclear contribution has stayed the same over a decade, wind has gone from been nothing to generation almost as much as nuclear, solar is currently in the same situation as wind was in the last decade but will catch up quick.

Our small 4KW solar PV panels already generate more electricity than we use (car charging excluded), we are having a battery storage system fitted very soon which will reduce our day time electricity use to roughly 2kWh per day (30p) all year round averaged.

    https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-uk-electricity-generation-2018-falls-to-lowest-since-1994

2023 and then every 5-10years later another nuclear power station will stop producing electricity = current operating plans.

Heavy industry is in major decline over the past few years I.e steel industry, so yes there probably has been a decline in usage but there will be a turning point.

Sometimes working in the industry’s actually has more current information than google. But having an opinion isn’t wrong either.

i hope you have done your calculations correct and bought the panels at the time the government actually gave good returns otherwise unless it’s your forever home it might be the next owner who benefits from it.

I have mixed views on this - I think we should all agree that waste was terrible ten years ago with plastic being buried in the ground and tonnes of it not even getting there and thrown out of car windows to make its way into ecosystems. We have improved on a number of issues around plastics but only scratching the surface really with pay for a bag and paper straws, hardly climate saving stuff that.

My best mate runs a renewable energy company and his views are pretty compelling in terms of energy production, his company overproduces by some margin they have to spend just as much storing the stuff as they do producing it. In fact Scotland actually ran itself for something like a full day on just renewable energy recently so power production is really shifting. Then I also met an ecologist professor at a recent school kids party, she is vegan and throws big numbers around about fish stocks, methane etc. and just says we all need to go vegan and thats it - at least one person is realist and one is idealistic!

The power argument is an interesting one, as production of renewable is 24 hours a day, basically if we shifted as much power usage to overnight (like only charging mobiles/tech at night instead of during the day) renewable would pretty much support it all.

Until it’s a breeze free day or too windy and the turbines can’t cope, unless the government starts building huge battery stores or @*!# tones more hydro power stations we haven’t got a chance. Most of Britain’s power is coming from ageing nuclear plants which aren’t being replaced quick enough to provide the base load needed for countries to run. And at the same time they want us all to use electric cars and put even more demands on a struggling ageing national grid. Not enough being done fast enough.

  8. Ended up buying a set of 300zx manifolds to see how they fit up against the VQ35 for future fun and if I get bored with SR20DET power. Going to splash some more cash on a GTX2867 gen2 .63A/R soon as two of them should fix on the 300zx manifolds and the SR20 with more than enough power to kill me.

  9. So after the thread about whiteline diff bushes I finally decided I better swap them round and sort the lock up on the KAAZ diff to make it more streetable.

quite a lot of stuff on the magnetic sump plug but its very fine paste and not big chunks so hopefully its ok.

    65995556_10162065012210441_7044135918973

need some exhaust gaskets and other bits so this might take a few days now and wont be rushed as I know the heads for the kaaz hex bolts are rounded and may need drilled out, which I am not looking forward to.

    65976865_10162065012000441_6551372293879

bungees probably need to be tighter for the driveshafts but not hanging at too much of an angle. Stupidly doing this with the wheels on the floor and had to roll the car forward to get to the top bolts on the driveshafts.

The prop shaft is stuck on so hopefully some strong wd40 will loosen the rust or whatever is holding it on the diff flange, tried a rubber mallet but not budging.

If you can find one, a power Enterprise PE1420 turbo, which is a modified IHI VN14.

    Very good on a SR20.

I had two on my VQ35.

Thanks for the tip, so far I have only looked at garrett turbos; g25-550 I think may be too big for my power goals and I like the look of the gtx2860 .60AR as its small for quick spool and will still give 400hp (safe for a stock block).

Thinking about engine managment aswell but not sure if I like Apexi hand commander look which is a bit big and bulky.

  11. Took the diffuser off as it was hitting the exhaust and thought it might wear through the metal, also thought it was rattling but it was the heat shield that just needed ripped off (thought i had done that long ago).

Decided to do the bumper tuck and now think I prefer it to the shi#'* gramms diffuser that was so hacked up anyway wasn't doing much except adding weight.

  12. SR20DET getting the exhaust gas recic valve removed (even though its been accidentally blocked from the factory it seems lol).

Good time to replace the oil feed and drain pipes with braided stuff.

I spotted this on Driftwork forum and it reminded me of your topic, some inspiration perhaps?

A bit to wild on the graphics but a nice build.

So the car has been away for 18 days at the motorsport / welders shop... and I don't think hes touched it yet due to being so busy and behind on other jobs. (Same guy that done Paul's 350z cage so I know hes worth waiting on).

Meanwhile I bought some spare rear brakes.... sadly I got done and the guy never gave me the carriers so no dual caliper setup yet, but they are better than my old ones.

    64297977_10161980608025441_1245749882610

Bought a big old press from a old guy who restores them and sells them on ebay, just need to bolt it to my workbench which I decided to use my spare sheet metal on.

    64632428_10161980608165441_7872055921147

As for the clutch and gearbox, I split them so I could measure the air gap and fit the new release bearing.

    64860105_10161980596655441_7679942626702

old 350z on right new s15 on left.

    64741059_10161980596725441_3003935689151

Should have an air gap of 11mm when the fork is fully back.

92mm from gearbox adapter plate to clutch fingers,

103mm from fully disengaged release bearing to bellhousing end.

73mm engaged release bearing to bellhousing end.

  14. So the oem 16" wheels no longer fit. The rod for the ball joint on the new driftworks black edition arms foul on the wheel.

    60763620_10161856171315441_9061150782782

So I will have to make do with the oem 18" 350z wheels for rolling the car about and winter work. Hopefully the 17" japan racing wantanabe copys fit.
