  1. I would have thought that any oil operates in an optimum temperature range, too hot + too thin and too cold = too thick would both have negative effects. But, as long as the cooler was thermostatically controlled, and the thermostat was set to the correct temperature, and working properly, there shouldn't be any problems. If you're really concearned, buy a sandwich plate and oil temp guage and do some monitoring.
  2. I've done exactly 0 miles since touching mine up, here is a quote from the MY350 post Quote: Originally Posted by DavesZ#3 View Post Any idea if that hobby paint can hold up to temperatures? They have not chipped off, or burnt off while are acceptably close to the original color as painted - at least enough so that I was still able to get a 1st place at the 2010 ZCON in the 350Z Daily Driver category. I have tracked the car so that the brakes have gotten hot enough to melt AMS carbon ceramic pad material onto the rotors! But I think the paint has held up exceptionally well. Yah - they do look now, just a tad darker now than the OEM paint, but not hardly so, - while they were a perfect match when first applied. I am anal enough that if it were not a close enough match, I would repaint them before every car show. Try it yourself - I can recommend it!
  3. I searched on here a while back for a decent touch up paint for a couple of chips on my Brembo calipers and didn't turn much up, except a members name who may or may not be able to get hold of any. Anyway, after no response I trawled MY350 and found the following post: http://my350z.com/forum/brakes-and-susp ... paint.html - see page 2 specifially for colour and longevity The answer is so unbelivably cheap and readily avaliable its rediculous and I feel that i really need to spread the word - go down to your local friendly model shop (the airfix type) and buy some Humbrol 54 Metallic paint, its a perfect match. I personally couldn't be bothered supporting my local businesses and brought a tin from e-bay for the princely sum of £1.99 delivered. Touched up my chips today and I'm right impressed. Tom
  4. I brought a used Master Cylinder for my Motorbike from the US. Cost me £23 on e-bay, I got charged somethiung like £2.30 import tax, pretty sure I paid VAT but that too was a small amount, the stinger was the £12 handling fee from Royal Mail
  5. Scorpion make most of their own stuff though do they not? I remember when they first started the 182 systems, the exhaust was built, tested and dyno'd on a forum members car before general release. I for one would be interested, Scorpion have a good name in the exhaust world - decent stuff at a decent price, its not cheap cr@p but won't break the bank. There have been issues, as with most budget manufacturers, with fitment, but at least they're in this country so can sort it out. At the end of the day we have Japspeed at £160ish obviously rebranded made in china stuff with random avaliability, shipping something over from the States, which is ok during a GB but has its issues otherwise, or spending big bucks for the likes of the Motordyne. Bang them out for £150 each (being realistic something below £180) and they will go like hotcakes, so long as there is a good supply.
  6. Have you tried any council tips / household waste centres? They always have second hand vice around here. I got a peach a couple of years ago for £10
  7. Price dropped - £95 posted / £85 collected
  8. Not sure mate, I can't say for definate. It might be worth some research though or trying to PM a clued up member on here. Tom
  9. I've used auctionsniper a few times 2 wins and 1 loss. Pretty impressed with them, first 3 wins are free if I recall correctly. I'm converted to sniping now, if there's something I really want it takes the hassle, and some of the excitement, out of the process
  10. That car in Northampton has been for sale for well over 4 months. Its been looked at before aswell - see page 3 of this thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=38590&hilit=northampton
  11. Looks nice, I take it that's ther e-bay HKS replica? I'd be very interested to hear how you get on with it - fitting etc, as its one I've been looking at. Be sure to post up a vid when the time comes
  12. Still for sale, no swaps thanks. Ref - the management light - CEL spacers are avaliable from a trader on this forum for £20, they should stop the management light coming on. As for changing my mind - I do that all the time, I was going to save up for a Nismo, but I brought a new roadbike yesterday afternoon, so cash is a little low at the min.
  13. Thanks Neil, couldn't have put it better myself. All I can add is that they are quite straightforward to fit, each cat has 3 bolts at one end, 2 bolts at the other and 1 bolt in the middle holding it to a bracing bar, the only other thing to remove and refit is the Lambda sensor, so in essence 7 bolts per cat to remove and refit. Took me approx 2 hours to do both sides, I was takng my time and reckon I could do the swap in the future in approx 1hr. No specialist tools required, just a ratchet and some sockets, preferably a 14mm deep socket. Hell of a lot lighter than ther standard cats aswell.
  14. For Sale are my silenced decat pipes, unbranded but I belive these are the very same units as sold by Japspeed and Megan Racing in the States. I'll include the 4 required gaskets and all nuts and bolts. These have only done approx 15 miles on my car since new, I brought and fitted them a couple of weeks ago but had to remove them for my MOT (I couldn't wait to fit them afterwards) However I've now decided to go in a different direction exhaust wise and these are being sold to fund that. Fit is good, with no modification required, although the silencers do sit quite close to the heatsheilds (15mm) and I'd probably suggest the heatsheilds should be bent slightly upwards, prior to fitting the decats. They are a very decent quality finish. I'm looking for £110 posted via Parcelforce / Royal Mail. £100 collected from Northampton
  15. I remember driving to Wales a couple of years ago i n my old 182 Clio. Cruise control set to about 75 knots on the motorway, the temp dropped gradually from 0 degrees to -8. My fuel consumption went down from 42MPG to about 32 definately due solely to the temperature change. Until then I'd never really realised it had such an impact.
  16. I looked at this one but ruled it out after reading their feedback, lots of negatives over the last 6 months including some having to pay import tax and some poorly fitting products
  17. Fitted my Tein S-tech springs a couple of weeks ago, a few days after fitting 4 new tyres, I obviously gave them a little bit of time to bed in and I took the car back today for a go on the Hunter machine in my local friendly garage 'Superior cars' in Northampton: Before: After: The car seemed to drive well both before and after fitting the springs, with no pulling etc, but the front Pass side tyre had lots of wear on the inside edge. As you can see, more or less every adjustible measurement was out, but the chap doing the fettling managed to get things back into spec with the existing adjusters, which are now as near as damn it on full adjustment. The only minor issue it the front drivers castor is ever so slightly out, but by such a small amount that I'm not going to loose any sleep. I'm very pleased with the result, both for the fact that I don't have to spend lots of cash on adjusters, and releived that my cars not bent! All in all a good result, especially considering that it only cost me £70 as I got the initial £35 check up fee knocked off for various reasons.
  18. Superior cars fitted my tyres last week. I'm taking the car back in a couple of weeks for them to set up the alignment. They have a pretty much brand new £28k's worth of Hunter machine sitting in the workshop and the owner - Paul - who operates it, used to do some racing in Holland, he won the series a couple of times, he's also a proper car enthusiast so knows his stuff. I found them very good and would reccommend them. They will take their time to do a good job and are very knowlegable. Tyres Northampton have fitted me tyres in the past. Quite a slick operation, but a significantly less personal service. I would reccommend them for tyres for anyone who had mint wheels and didn't mind paying that bit more for an almost no damage garantee Finally there is Northampton Mototrsport who also have a Hunter machine. They set up a car of mine a couple of years ago. The young lad took ages to do anything, I realise there's taking your time and doing a good job, but there's also dragging your heels and stringing the job out. Beings I was paying by the hour, it cost me a small fortune and I had to take the car back a week later because it was pulling to one side. this time the boss set it up on the machine and found that the toe was way out. Needless to say I wouldn't reccommend them.
  19. Be prepared for wheel and bodywork damage. These type of pads are very aggressive and give off 'super heated' metallic particles which stick / weld to car parts and then rust away, causing lots of damage. They may look good sparking away, but best avoided in my opinion
  20. Good price for some decent coilovers. I can't see how a quality set could possibly cost less than £1000 new
  21. The thing with coilovers is that no one ever factors in £200+ for setup. They have to be corner weighted (to ensure all ride heights are balanced - if one wheel is bearing more weight it means that the car is tilting towards that wheel etc) and have toe and camber set up without question. Yes they are great for track use, but whats the point of fully adjustible suspension if you are never goining to adjust it, or every time you do adjust it, having to pay hansomely have it professionally set up again. In my opinion its just extreme overkill for a road car. I've gone for the cheap option of simply lowering using springs. I wanted to retain an almost factory look, without the car looking like its obviously lowered and the Tein springs (with spacers) have acheived that superbly, ride quality seems almost unchanged also. The relatively modest drop in height should work well with the stock dampers and not cause premature failure and they are not lowering too much so as to get into the realms of rear toe and camber adjusters, which would send the cost rocketing. I got mine from an e-bay seller after first ordering from camskill, who replied a day later saying they had no stock and would not see any for 6 weeks minimum. I e-mailed an e-bay seller on the monday morning, he replied an hour later, confirming he had stock so I purchased the springs. They were delivered the next day via ups - excellent service and a good price too: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0550032456 Of course, when you fit any springs, you must have the alignment checked and it seems that the Z does experience tracking problems anyway, so you should factor in at least £100 for decent suspension geometry setup. Try to find somewhere with a Hunter machine. I'm having mine done in a couple of weeks, once the springs have bedded in. I'm hoping that the camber and toe will be adjustable with the factory fit adjusters, but will be happy to run a little more -ve camber as long as both sides are balanced. I do such little mileage anyway, it won't affect tyre wear too much.

    God Dam Brakes!!!

Its good practice to change both sides anyway, regarless of the fact that only one side needs doing. Not withstanding the previous inspections, its a good discount being offered, however, if you are concearned about costs it might be worthwhile pricing up some quality aftermarket items and asking a local, experienced forum member to fit them for you.
  23. Another second car vote from me. Did something similar a while ago. Only snag is insuring two cars, most companies won't entertain it, but as I recall direct line have a policy which applies your NCB to both cars. I brought a saxo diesel for £500, gave it a solid service ran it for 12 months, when I was in a fuel saving mood I could hit an average of 75MPG over a week, when driving 'normally' I averaged 65 MPG. Had no problems whatsoever. Tarted it up and sold it 1 year later for £700!
  24. Any recommendations for PDR in the Northampton Area?
  25. That reminds me, a friends 182 had loose heatsheilds, on top of the backbox, well worth sliding underneath and having a quick look.
