Andy Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Does anyone have any suggestions of reputable places to pick up (unbuilt)kit cars? I'd love to have a go at an AC Cobra but I have a feeling they are going to be a fair wedge! Quote
Trev-the-Rev Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 You could try one of the kit car magazines - iirc there's always unfinished projects for sale in there. Quote
Dan Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 I'd love to have a go at an AC Cobra but I have a feeling they are going to be a fair wedge! You and me both. Thats my dream car that is. I believe Gardner Douglas are the best kits. Meanwhile take a look here and drool : http://www.sovereigncarsales.co.uk/Cobras.aspx Quote

Kev946 Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 My favourite kit car is this...Lancia Stratos. The original was designed and built by Betrone and shares a lot with the X1/9. Reminds me of watching the RAC rally. You can build it with a V6 3litre Alfa engine, of even a Ferrari was the original. I saw Hawk Cars at a show and their show car was so authentic it was hard to tell it was a kit car. Complete with Ferrari engine http://www.hawkcars.co.uk/hf3000/index.html Try this site for Kit Car info http://www.kit-cars.com/kcguide/replicaguide.html You might find so here plus try Pistonheads http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/list/6/ Quote

xStric9x Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 Bloke across the road from me has just built two and they have a 4.2 v8 in them and the sound is just creamy. Quote
max Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Be very carfull about part built or older part finished, some of the older cars were never designed with sva in mind and would not pass, also with some of the older cars that say registered as a classic no tax to pay, i looked at a cobra that was built in 1983 using a mark 2 jag as a donor for the running gear and registration number and used on the road covering 20,000 miles the v5 still said mark 2 jag the owner did not inform dvla of the changes so as not to pay road tax, under the new mot where the garage checks dvla computers for car information which would say jag and you turn up in a cobra they will not be able to mot the car no mot no road tax. you will be very lucky if dvla changes your v5 so you end up with a cobra worth nothing as it's not road worthy. max.
