Tailgate strut removal. Top bolt stuck. Help!!

Hi all,

 

I recently bought some new SGS tailgate struts, but I cant for the life of me get the top nut off the original struts.

 

I've tried adjustable and 12mm spanner both with WD40 and its going nowhere, all i've managed to do is pretty much round it off.

 

Any ideas?

Did you cover the bolt in WD40 and leave it for an hour or two? May help free it up before you cause more damage and round it off completely!

This is a fairly common problem I am aware that some have cut the top cup of then attacked the ball |I think there are some videos on you tube out there personally I took mine down to a garage I could trust and they did it no easy answer though.

Use a proper penetrating fluid and you might have some more success (eg PlusGas).

 

rounding doesn't sound good though. If I found it difficult I'd cut it off and get a decent socket on there
