Polishing out window.windscreen scratches

My windows have loads of light vertical scratches in them, I've cleaned out the door seals to try to prevent them deepening, but i want to try to polish them out. My windscreen also has tons of little chips which are only really noticeable when driving into the sun, but when I hit a sunny patch its pretty distracting. So I want to try to polish them out.

What pads/compounds would you recommend?

Should I just get a professional to do it, if so what would be the expected cost?

Would it not be cheaper, quick "if you can" to pay the £70 excess and get it replaced on insurance?

Sounds cheap! fairly sure my excess is more like £250. The side windows are the worst! Maybe I should go glassless and wear goggles.

This is my first car only had it 6 months so at least I haven't got a no claims bonus to loose.

Usually a windscreen repair/replacement won't affect your premium or no claims bonus as it's not a claim against your insurance. Check with your policy but normally a chip repair is between £10-25 depending on who you're with and a total replacement would be £75-100
