janz70 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 I have just ordered a spoiler from Hong Kong - Its "re-engineered" as they say but my wallets a bit too light for the real one. Just wondering what customs Fines, sorry charges will I be stung with when it comes over. Quote
nixy Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 mm, not sure. By rights you can only bring in a value of up to £18 without being liable to be charged. Then it's hit and miss as to whether they get you. You should look on HM Customs and Excise website. Quote
M13KYF Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 if you were getting a 'style' one did you look up EPRacing. They are already in this country. Sorry if it's too late now. Quote
nixy Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPort ... _CL_001454 There you go, sorry I don't know how to shrink the link! Quote
max Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 From the states it works out at about 25% of the original price, get the seller to invoice you for less than the real price and you pay less. max. Quote
Digsy Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 So if I buy something from Germany there's no import duty and as long as I paid German VAT I don't get charged again? Quote
holtehero Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 So if I buy something from Germany there's no import duty and as long as I paid German VAT I don't get charged again? Custom charges don't apply in the EU i believe, as long as you pay the local taxes Quote
Rob_Quads Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Correct. If you buy something from anywhere in the EU and pay the local taxes you can import it it without being hit. I've found its around 20-25% of original cost INCLUDING shipping as its included in calculations Quote
Digsy Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Still puts the wing that I want at over £750.... Quote
Trev-the-Rev Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Still puts the wing that I want at over £750.... Bloody hell Digsy, which one is it? Quote
Digsy Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Still puts the wing that I want at over £750.... Bloody hell Digsy, which one is it? Strosek. Trust me, at that price it ain't going to happen. Quote
janz70 Posted July 14, 2007 Author Posted July 14, 2007 Yes I know that we dont get charged in the EU because we are in it but there seems like there is no hard and fast rules - also I 've taken out insurance in case it gets damaged and the seller said that he must put the full buying price on the customs forms or if it gets damaged the shipping company will only reimburse up to whatever was declared - bit of a bummer as im getting stung for the insurance and the customs charges .wherer as if I just got it sent I wouldn't have this bother but I may have had a broken spoiler. I've had stuff from HK before and its escaped fees but the sellers usually label it up as a gift or low price item, Not something you could do on an item that size. Quote

janz70 Posted July 21, 2007 Author Posted July 21, 2007 Well got my spoiler today and good news - no customs charges It was labeled up as a gift and they never put a value on it ! - so I dont think it was sent insured even though I have paid extra for the insurance - they look as if they have just taken the insurance money but they better not have as its got a chip out of it, so well see what happens. I suppose it could be filled but thats why I took the insurance out. Quote
