Mixed tyres newbie

Hello to everyone and my first real post. Had my Z now for only a few months and replaced the two rear tyres ( like for like) the first week I had her, as one was very worn. Just checking the fronts recently and noticed a size difference to the rears. I would like to get them changed to match the rears profile. I know that some cars do eg Mercedes have a slightly larger tyres on the front. Is there a reason or just not been matched up properly. Is it ok to get them swopped to the same lower profile as the rears.

Front 255/35r 20 97w xl Admiral

Rear 285/30zr 20 Nankang

The Zed runs staggered sizes front to back to maintain a neutral balance between over and understeer. Profile is the % of the width, so not unusual to have different sizes.

 

I have no idea what size tyres you need to run on 20" wheels, but those tyres you have on there are bloody awful! Have a read of this and make your own mind up though as to whether mixed tyres are a good idea or not. I'm sure someone else will be along to advise of the correct sizes on 20" wheels, the miata.net calculator appears to be down for me.

Thanks Exona. There what came on her so just using for now WIP. The wheels are pretty banged up them selves and need a dammed good refurb or scrapping. But tempted to go to 19" just worried about the different sizes.

Front tyres for 20's should be 255/30/20 Your rear tires are the correct size, but bloody awful

MPSS job done, car is transformed.

Front tyres changed to match the rear lower profile. Deaded Nankangs on all four corners but still alive.
