Rays wheel refurb/paint

Hi all

My rays "considering the age" are in very good condition very little blistering and only a small graze on one wheel however I want to get them painted in a smokey grey/black as I think they will look nicer against the gunmetal paint.

Anyway my question is... Does anyone know anywhere good in the north west around Warrington/liverpool area or around there?

Thanks

This is relevant to my interests. I have asked around a few places for prices in Warrington recently, they all seem to be about 220 or so for me to get mine done and resprayed matte Bronze. Can't really speak for the quality of any of them though as I've not had mine done yet.

Does seem a bit steep. To be fair though, one of the guys I spoke to (the guy that said £220) didn't seem to know what he was talking about, so although it is cheaper, it might not be as good quality.

My dad got his wheels done last year some time, and a company in Manchester came out to our house to do it (in Warrington), it was something like £160 for all 4 wheels too. All they did was refurb it to standard spec, there was no re-spraying a different colour or anything like that. So maybe that would have made it cheaper. Only problem is he doesn't have a record any where of who it was that did them

All depends how they do it in order to compare costs.

TWS fully strip the wheel down to bare alloy then powder coat so the finish is ultra tough.

Most mobile places and body shops, just paint them and bake them. Some don't even remove the tyres to do it and just do the front faces.

It will be a powdercoat if anything. Magnesium isnt used in paint/powder.

And to steer it back off again i was charged £320 from TWS to refurb a set of 17'' rims. Cant fault them at all, spot on job and as others have said they were acid stripped, some minor kerb rash filled, powder coated and baked all within 12 hours. Expensive but worth it IMO.

you paid 320 for ur 4 wheels to get refurb. A garage quoted 200 for all 4 of my 18s. What could be the reason for It being cheaper? I dont believe higher value is always better, but 200 is a fair bit cheaper...

Brian at The Wheel Specialist is a Mate of mine and a top bloke. Leeds: .0113 287 3005. I asked him to just do a straight forward refurb on my wheels and trust me they were totally bolloxed. Curbed and scraped all over. He said give me 1 wheel and he'd do it as a sample and if I didn't like it there was no cost. As you see them is what he gave me back.

The Wheels are really 3 colours. Smoked chrome spokes, silver/polished rim and the wheel hoop going back is gloss black. I bought the Z centre caps on eBay. Just thought they finished it off right and added a bit of difference to them.

This was almost 2 years ago and the first set in this 3 colour finish they'd done. I posted the pictures and within a week there were 2 more sets. For once I may have set a trend. Lol

After 2 years the finish is still first class. The "Z" centre caps at the front had some pealing and Brian re-did them for free after 14 months. You can't say fairer than that. The lads up at Leeds are real petrol heads and take pride in their work. This is something I appreciate a lot. Like you I have to work and respect people who take care in what they do to my car. Trust me, I'm very particular about who works on my Z.

It can be done in a day, obviously need to be dropped off early. Good thing is Leeds city centre or the Xscape facility is a short ride away by bus or Taxi, so you can fill your day. Failing that I've used a company called Paisley freight to courier stuff for me. They are good, cheap and reliable and I still think would be cheaper all in with carriage than the quote you've had.

I don't know what the total cost would be, but if you mention my name and recommendation I'm sure hell look after you. I stand by the work they've done and do not recommend anybody lightly. It's got to be first class or I just wouldn't.

My only other thought is as I'd said earlier and not to do Brian out of work, but depending on the colour of your Z, Carbon Dipping them would be something I would consider. I've thought about getting another set of Rays and having them done. I do have a brand spanking new set in the garage, but want to keep em standard. Just a thought.

I can recoomend the Wheel Specialists in Manchester.

They do a same day service, shot blast the wheels back to base metal, refurb the wheel including any rim damage, and powder coat in most standard colours, revalve the tyres and rebalance.

They are not cheap but do offer a good service at reasonable cost.

Got my Honda Accord done there last year with no problems and the wheels still look like new.

My Zed wheels are in similar condition to yours and I intend to get them done later this year.

Needless to say, I'll be asking the Wheel Specialists, Manchester for a quote!!
