My nurburgring '13 Trip!

Just come back from the nurburgring for the second time and it was pretty damn amazing tbh.

Met at London Colney Mcdonalds at 5:30am on Friday 24th May. and set off to catch the 8:43am Euro tunnel. due to no traffic we arrive around the 7:45am mark.

We had a completly random convoy that consisted of;

Nissan 350z

Fiesta ST

Mini cooper S

Mazda mx5

VW Jetta supercharged

MG BGT

Arrive at the ring at approve 7pm and the weather was half dry, half wet. which was never a good sign, and already there were two cars by the enterance with armco damage. whilst standing there wondering how they occured a guy came out of the centre looking a bit sorry for himself, holding a piece of paper. Being curious to how or why, obviously had to ask.

he had gone into a turn too hot and slid straight into armco. damage to car was minimal, scuffed bumper and broken grill. Bill for Armco... 2,000Euros. ouch.

The other smashed car had aparently just bumped off an armco but managed to smash his passenger headlight and wing, and no damage was caused, bill was 90Euros.

This put me off for the evening.

Went to our house, stayed in a placed called Apparments monika schneider. it was a house that could sleep 6, with a drive to park 4 cars. Monika, the owner lives next door and is a lovely lady, we will be staying there next year aswell, highly reccomend it if you are going.

Saturday was great, weather was good and everyone was buzzing! Took the zed out tentativley for the first lap, as my last outing on a track ended badly, but it was great. i had bridgestone r040's and even though they arent the greatest, i still feel they handled fantastic. didnt step out on me once, and towards the end of the day i was smooth and linking corners together quickly with no worry at all. Playing GT5 for a few weeks before to learn what corner was coming next was a real help!

I have standard JDM brakes with red stuff pads. i know people don't really rate them that highly, but they stood up to what i threw at it. they had slight fade towards the end and don't like quick breaking at about 140mph!!!!

We've got several gopro videos which will be mashed together to make short clip.

On sunday it was raining from the moment we woke up, to about the time the track closed! typical! none of us wanted to risk our cars in the wet so we just watched an planned to do 4 laps on monday morning before we had to head back to the ferry.... only to realise at around 11:30pm that it was bank holiday and the track was shut on monday. Gutted.

Still an awesome weekend though.

To sum up costs for anyone thinking of doing it;

3 x tanks of petrol = £270approx.

Tunnel = £144, i booked this last week, so booking in advance will cost you less.

Laps = However many you want to do, 1 = 25, 4 = 89, 9=202

House for 3 nights = 280euros, split between 4 people was 70euros,

Cost per meal at a resturant is under 20euros.

Highly reccomend Going for anyone that hasn't been before. Just take it easy.

Will post a few pictures up when i get a chance.

Also, spotted a few guys over there.

Yellow uk with a private plate S26 ***

silver uk 06 plate

and a black uk, can't remeber the reg though.

That's the thing, you can't get insurance for a tourist day, only a track day.

Luke, how hot was it when you had the brake fade? When my brakes went when I was there a few years back it was absolutely sweltering, and that was with Brembos and a full PF setup.

im off on the 28th of july and cant wait, you have any tips or tings you learnt apart from being careful and not being a track hero lol?

I was very careful in planning the dates, as the track is only open for 2 sundays a month and there open for the full day on those days so glad im going over then and im camping

Mirrors, mirrors, mirrors. Check and triple check, and as long as you drive it like a fast country road you'll be fine. :)

Il be doing exactly this, im not racing, all im doing is driving and as il have barely any idea of the track apart from playing forza lol

Ryanmi do insurance, they quoted me £200 for the weekend but i chose not to because its not like a trackday in the uk where you push it to the extreme levels. i look at it as a one way country road. i didnt time myself, but i think i done a mid 9minutes. so im not pushing it. i wasnt there to set lap times, i was there to enjoy the whole weekend with my mates and see the famous place.

I had brake fade when i came past the gantry and had to break at about 140ish.

on the first lap i was nervous so was breaking at every corner, but after i calmed down, i was just letting off then accelerating out the bends without breaking, thus not using breaks as much.

and like i said, i have standard JDM set up with only red stuff pads. car has done 101,000 miles. and it performed fine. I will however be upgrading to brembos, cause i plan on doing more trackdays this year which il be pushing the car harder and harder.

Even though your car is fast, you are not. you will be overtaken by a mk1 golf. and every car that you thought you could overtake, will be gone.

just be smooth is what i found. mirrors all the time, and indicate right and pull right over so they know that you've seen them behind you.

There is a real nice place to eat called pinnocihos. which i will highly reccomend.

Also, if you get a chance, go find adenu-forst and watch from there. great place to view.
