I know people probably get fed up of questions about air intakes/filters etc as often newbies find it quicker to ask questions rather than find the answers themselves but to be fair I have spent alot of time researching on this site and on the internet but still have not found any answers to my questions. If anyone would be so kind to help clarify a few things I would really appreciate it: Why does the JWT Pop Charger enhance the sound? I initially thought it was due to the fact that it is sucking the air from a larger area i.e no air box. However I note that the K & N Typhoon also has a similar effect (though from what I've read it's not quite as vocal as the JWT) yet this has an airbox. Relating to the above why then would the '06 airbox with an "upgraded" panel filter not enhance the sound also? Is it mainly due to the fact the JWT and K&N both use cone filters? or is it something else? As my Zed already has the '06 box would it be possible to fit a cone filter into this box or maybe buying one of those Takeda one's Tarmac has on offer and use the existing '06 box with it's velocity stack. Ekona Posted March 16, 2013 Share Posted March 16, 2013 I believe this difference isn't down to the filter shape or size, it's down to (as I think you've suspected) how open the filter is. Put it in an air box and you muffle the noise, leave it open and you can hear more. Same principle with everything, really. From quiet to loud: Air box with panel filter Air box with cone filter (I have this setup on the 911) Open cone filter There's probably some flash name to do with soundwave dynamics but I've no idea what that is! ZMANALEX Posted March 16, 2013 Share Posted March 16, 2013 If you are also looking for advice on what to fit to retain or improve on your present power levels then I would recommend that you retain the 06 airbox and fit a Performance Panel drop in filter. Cosworth or HKS are the most popular and both improve filtration and cold air intake. Plenty in stock and good to go same/next day.
