larsdowg Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Morning all, I have a 2004 350Z GT with 21,000 on the clock.....its ginger but dont hold that against me! On the way to work this morning it started doing this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lPWY1S4erg (not my video by the way, just an example) I had a full service about a month ago and the plugs all changed.... I havent checked the oil level yet, will do this tonight. Could it be a dial issue or an oil pump issue, or other? If so does anyone know about how I go about checking these myself..... I'm sure mine usually sits in the middle of the dial, what should the norm psi be running at? Thanks everyone in advance Lars Quote
Neilp Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 That guys revving his engine. The oil pressure fluctuates with the rev increase This is normal Quote
Sam Mcgoo Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 That guys revving his engine. The oil pressure fluctuates with the rev increase This is normal +1 It'll sit around 40 ish at idle, 60ish when cruising and over that when jiving it WOT. Nothing to worry about. But you should regularly check your oil level anyway. Quote
larsdowg Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 yeah, just seems like its doing it more so than usual....... Owned the car 4 years I will keep a close eye on it thanks all Quote
Sam Mcgoo Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 If it does it while holding steady revs there could be a problem, so keep an eye on it. Check your oil before you leave work. Do you know what oil was put in it at your service? Quote

cmck13 Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 This video was reviewed on here a couple of weeks ago, perfectly normal when the engine ticks over and then is revved up that's what oil pressure is. Quote
spursmaddave Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Isn't it more to worry about if it stays low Quote
Ebized Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 That video is almost certainly when the engine is cold to get the low and high readings shown. With both my previous 350s when the engines were at full running temperature the guages would show @ idling just below the first segment mark (approx 20psi) and @ 70mph in 6th on the 60psi (second) mark. Only when you are really giving it the beans would the pressure move up to the third mark when at running temperature. Quote
larsdowg Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 Update: I checked the oil level the same day and even though the service was recently done it was about 1/2 litre down.... Topped it up and all good now, thankfully.... thanks everyone for your comments and help its much appreciated as per usual Cheers Lars Quote
