tprice Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 let us know if you have solved it! have you checked your rear tyres yet mate Quote
taffyjason Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 these are for my rear tyres, i mentioned what the engineer found at the garage ref the rears, along with everyone's input on this thread, seems the best way to go Quote
taffyjason Posted November 25, 2011 Author Posted November 25, 2011 just an update, had two Pirelli P Zero's fitted to the rear, the problem is mostly fixed, there is some droning around 60mph but not so loud, but i think i noticed when swerving left the droning stopped.....so maybe a mix of old bad tyres and a wearing rear right bearing? any ideas with the recent update? cheers all Quote
cefiro_drifter Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Have you jacked the back up an Grabbed the top and bottom of the wheel and pushed and pulled It. It's a sure fire way to see if the bearings are gone as it will move if they are gone and won't move if they are fine Quote
taffyjason Posted November 25, 2011 Author Posted November 25, 2011 no jack here im afraid, im going to have to find and borrow one from somwhere, this drone is getting expensive lol Quote
cefiro_drifter Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Not Even a scissor jack from the boot and do one side at a time ? Quote
ZMANALEX Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 This could well be your fix mate, and for less than half the price of a pirelli. viewtopic.php?f=157&t=28625 Alex. Quote
taffyjason Posted November 26, 2011 Author Posted November 26, 2011 you already sold me one lol Quote
ZMANALEX Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 you already sold me one lol I know, I know However you have one on each rear hub Alex. Quote
taffyjason Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 one at a time! hopefully ive isolated it this time, as when i go around a round-about and turn left, the noise pretty much goes away...so right hand bearing hopefully....is also the clicky axle side! Quote
taffyjason Posted January 6, 2012 Author Posted January 6, 2012 latest info on droning noise, a motorsports company road tested it for me and are convinced its the LSD, apparently needs re-building, not a repair as such, a re-arranging how does this sit with members? Quote

What brand of LSD do you have fitted mate? If you are running a stock VLSD then they give very few problems unless abused Alex. Quote

Picking up from that and given the manual advises ZEDs not to be towed on the rear wheels or brake tests done on rolling roads because of possible damage to the diff, if that has happened does it cause droning noises or would there be other symptoms? Quote
taffyjason Posted January 7, 2012 Author Posted January 7, 2012 well i can only assume its a stock LSD in my 2004 zed, we took it for a test on the motorway, the droning isnt too bad on acceleration, but it is particularly obvious when foot off the gas and going into neutral, so car is disconnected from the engine, slowing down, plus a right hand turn will make the sound practically go, right hand turn it picks up im told they can be rebuilt relatively easily, any ideas who? where? cheers all Quote
370Ad Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Tried to PM you taffy but your box is full. Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Mine has just started doing it, all tyres are the same with an even 6mm of tread and there doesnt seem to be any play in the bearings. Sounds like it is definitely coming from the left hand side of the car though. Quote
