Added a cheap, yet suprisingly good reversing camera.

Got it off eBay for £18

It replaces one of the numberplate light housings, with the cam moulded into it

Fed the cables for video feed and power through the grommet in the centre of the boot bulkhead

Took the live off the reversing light

Grounded at the main grounding point

A voila, all done

Does the bulb go back in to the little section next to the camera?

Yes it does, you basically replace the OEM bulb housing with the camera unit.

The opening for the bulb holder was a little tight, but nothing a Dremel can't fix :)

I think I did a mini fail...

I forgot to tap the "Reverse Camera Signal" (purple) wire from the HU to the reverse light...

So now I am manually switching to the cam feed rather than it doing it automatically.

(it should switch automatically, right?)

Yes... BUT I think you only need to link to the reverse cable head the HU/Gear stick?

(Still looking into this on mine!)

Can't find one :(

Does that mean I will have to run a cable from the spliced reverse light cable all the way to the HU for it to come on automatically?

I think that's what I need to do.

But since I know where to route the wire it's gonna be easier.

Centre console > gear tunnel > tuck under plastics just by the lower edge of cubby door > go behind rear passenger quarter, using the poppers to stop interference with seatbelt > from there follow antenna cable to rear light cluster

Simples once you know where to go

Thinking about it ... If you ran TWO cables instead of one....

Hooked one up to the power for your camera, and the other to your reversing light...

You could then have a switch in your glove box and with the use of a simple power supply from the HU (I may use the remote) you could switch between "Camera Always ON" to "Camera On ONLY when in Reverse"

Trying to decide if it would be worth doing this or not...

Would I ever need to have the camera on when I WASN'T in reverse?

Can't see a situation that would benefit from that particular mod

I suppose you could watch the car behind while you hit the one in front

I haven't begun fitting mine yet but I am thinking I should just run 2 cables from front to back, one from the reverse light to the HU and one from the camera to the HU, and then also a power cable from the reverse light to the camera.

So engage reverse, light comes on, camera comes on and HU switches to rear view....

I also have it on the passenger side :)

Done the fix while at work.

Ran a cable the same way I ran the video feed and just scotchclipped it to the extended power wire for the cam. All working sweet and auto switching.

For F900BT owners, I can tell you that the HU does not have to boot up fully fir the cam to work.

It will display within 5-6 seconds of start up while the rest of the startup is still going on.

Nice one BM

I shall attempt this at some point this week once my teeth are sorted
