Hi there!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just to say hi! I'm from Newcastle and I'm 23.

Basically I've owned a 1.6 16v Sxi Astra for 2 years now and I've been driving for 4 years. I want something newer, flashier and a bit nippier. OK, I know a nigh on 300Bhp 350z can't exactly just be called nippy, but I like the look of them. :D

Just wondering whether you would recommend one to someone of my age. What sort of costs would I be looking at for services/petrol costs etc (I only do 8000 miles a year, mostly business). Also are there any pricey parts that typically go wrong? I'm just trying to see if I could actually afford to run one, or am I setting my sights too high?

I've already done quotes and bell were the best at £1150, which with only 1NCB (stupid ice lost me 3!) which isn't all that bad considering my age etc.

Anyway, thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

Hi and welcome to the forum. You wouldnt be the youngest owner on here so its definately very possible. Check out the FAQ section for a sticky post for new members. There are some good links for buyers in there.

The cars are pretty reliable so apart from a few easily identified issues its down to the normal checks, service history etc. :)

Cool, just reading up now.

I know it's a bit of an odd question, but how do they compare to RX8s cost wise? I was set on getting one, but the low mpg, maintenance costs and the rotary engine all scared me off.

There are a lot of guys on here who have also owned an RX8 so I will let them give a less biased view. ;)

The zed isnt to expensive to run, just make sure you get the cheaper pre 06 tax band, after that its down to your right boot. :)

Yup, I see it's the same story as the RX8 tax wise. Yeah I'd have to get one of that age to afford it anyway, I'm looking to spend £10k tops.Got £5k saved aside for a car, so the rest would be finance.

What does a typical service cost? And are they just normal annual/ certain mileage?

Have a look in the servicing section bud. They are 9k or 12 months. P1, P2 and P3. The schedules are in there with costs around the country. We get better deals than those who live further south. :)

CS will say Hi soon, he does servicing so he can give you a guide on costs. ;)

edit, Damn too slow.

Hi & :welcome: to the forum. The Zed is a pretty solid car & therefore not to expensive to run. Petrol will be a bigger bill as we manage anything from 18 - 30 mpg, depending on the type of driving you do. The Zed also uses 97 - 99 ron (ideally 99). If you catch the modding bug then wave goodbye to your wallet, but suppose that stands for any car.

Thanks all, good to see that it's not quite as thirsty as the RX8 :D

I really like them I have to admit, I just think 2 seats would make so many things difficult...

This is going to sound rude on a 350Z dedicated forum, but what other cars in this class/style would you recommend?

Mieleage isnt really a problem if the service history is good. There are a few on sale on the forum at the moment so you have a good budget. :)

Thanks, if you don't me asking (tell me where to go if it's too personal! :D) but how much do you spend a month to keep it running? ie is it a high maintenance car like the RX8?

Haha yup deffo. Well that's good to hear. Seeing as I'd either be getting a loan or finance I'd be looking at either £150 a month payments + £100 ish insurance, or I could just use the loan to pay off the insurance in one big lump.

Thanks for the help.

I've still got a good two months till the insurance runs out, so plenty time to shop around and decide :)

I am just catching up with this thread. To put it blunt. RX8 is no where as good as the zed. DONE DEAL

Buy a zed

Well this is a good way to get myself banned, but I actually prefer the look and style of the RX8 (also that it has 4 seats haha).

Its just too damned pricey and sketchy to run. I'd always worry if I'm going to flood it or need to get new bits for it etc.
